Beechwood Manor Inn & Cottage
Ranked #7 of 24 Saugatuck B&B and Inns

This was our first visit to Saugatuck and loved staying at Beechwood Manor Inn! The gourmet breakfasts are fabulous, particularly the daily fresh fruit cups and blueberry pancakes with lemon curd sauce, and homemade biscotti. Our gracious hosts, Jamie and Scott, provided outstanding service and were always available for directions, information, and conversation. Beechwood Manor is the perfect place to stay when visiting Saugatuck. It's located on a quiet residential street and a very short walk into town for unique shopping and great dinners. We visited a local winery, spent a day at the beautiful near-by beach, and loved coming back to historic Beechwood Manor Inn, our home when visiting this wonderful lakeside community.

Room Tip: We stayed in the largest room which includes a sitting area. All of the rooms are beautiful and uniq...

Our experience in the Beechwood Manor Inn was exceptional in every way. Our hosts were thoughtful in providing for our comfort--and the breakfasts were delicious. For breakfast, we were given three "main dish" options. The salmon asparagus eggs benedict and the quiche were both very special, served along with a generous goblet of fresh fruit, potatoes, and homemade breads. Our room was very sweet, and the footed bathtub with herbal bath salts a special treat. Jaime provided us with beach towels and bottled water for the beach. The wine and truffles, that were part of our package, were both treats. We had one dinner at Everyday People in Saugatuck, more delicious food. We enjoyed walking in the towns of Saugatuck and Douglas--and the wooded dunes and beech dunes in Saugatuck State Park. It was a lovely three days!!

It's hard to find dog-friendly spots for a short getaway, but Jamie and Scott (new proprietors at Beechwood Manor) were extremely accomodating. Our cottage was a great base for strolls through Saugatuck, fabulous dinners, a quick trip a few miles up the road to Holland, and quiet time together with veach other and with Charlie, our Swedish elkhound. Jamie worked very hard to make it possible for us to enjoy the early spring by the lake, and we know that Beechwood Manor will flourish under her watch. David & Pat Williams (and Charlie)

Jamie and Scott are wonderful hosts. Our breakfast was delicious, the room was great, and Jamie's advice about where to go and where to eat was perfect. The Inn is a few blocks from downtown Saugatuck, but the walk through the neighborhood helped make our "treks" to downtown a pleasure. Scott and Jamie made sure that we felt welcome. When we had to leave early in the morning, they provided an amazing basket of food and juice to take with us.

Room Tip: The cottage is perfect for families. It has two bedrooms, kitchen, living room, bathroom. It's...

For starters, the Beechwood Manor is under new ownership. So, all the references to “Greg and Sal” that you read all over the place online or in the comment books inside the Beechwood’s guestrooms no longer apply. “Greg and Sal” are gone, replaced by “Jamie and Scott.”

That said, and as far as I can tell, the B&B itself is virtually identical to what it used to be. Same building, same rooms, same furniture. The breakfasts have obviously changed, but they were still delicious.

Now, I have virtually no bed-and-breakfast experience, and I’m not really sure that I am the bed-and-breakfast type. I do know that Jamie is an excellent host, and Scott is an excellent cook. So those elements of our stay were perfect.

Our only real complaint involves an issue that, for all we know, may be fairly common among B&Bs: The walls are paper-thin at the Beechwood. We could hear the conversations of our neighbors pretty clearly – along with every single bed squeak from next door, which could be a bit creepy if you think too much about it.

All in all, we had a great stay. It was a great room, with great food in the morning, all within easy walking distance of downtown Saugatuck. We may not be bed-and-breakfast people, but the Beechwood Manor may have convinced us otherwise.

Room Tip: Enid's Room is the largest. It has a shower, a tub and a fireplace.

We couldn't have asked for a better escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Who would have thought that a last minute trip to Saugatuck in March could have been so great. What we thought would be a day in by the fire, turned into a day at the beach and a night in by the fire. As for the hosts, they were a step ahead of us the whole time. From the cold beverages waiting for us when we returned to waking up to fresh, made to order breakfasts every morning...everything was perfect!

My wife and I love few things more than a weekend escape together to the Saugatuck/ Douglas area. Of the B and B's we've stayed (all of which were enjoyable),

Beechwood Manor stands out for three reasons. First, the setting is pure bliss - above the frey, a short walk to Saugatuck or Douglas downtowns, on a bucolic residential street that looks down on the river / lake. We ended both nights rocking away on the front deck, watching the lake shimmer in the moonlight through the trees. (Doubt it is as good of a view when the trees have leaves but still nice.)

Second, the house is remarkable in that it is beautifully restored and maintained in the spirit of its unique history but also has all the comforts and modern amenities. There is a little bit of creaking (it is an OLD house) but we both slept very well, and I even took a nice nap.

Last but not least, innkeeper Greg is a super nice guy and does what he does with charm and excellence. He has an attention to detail which shows in everything from the delicious breakfasts to the fact that he introduced us by name to our fellow guests - a nice touch in a small B and B. Probably not the place to party all night long, but if you're looking to relax and unwind at night after a long day (and evening) enjoying the many wonderful parts of the area - or just spend your week/end relaxing in a beautiful old home, this is a great Saugatuck spot for you.
