We have been to Saugatuck many times and I thought staying at the Maplewood Hotel would be very nice. When we checked in on 6/23/2014, there was confusion but finally the lady found our name on the register. Room 105 was extremely small and there were no tables next to the beds so there was no place to put a drink. The sheets would not stay on the mattress and immediately came off. I just slept under the cover. My wife and I were not able to get a good nights sleep because the mattress was so old. The mattress was so broken down that if you got near the edge you would almost roll out of bed. The breakfast buffet was very nice and was by far the high point of the stay. Considering the nice breakfasts you receive at many chain hotels it was not enough to change my opinion the hotel. Unfortunately this is our first and last time to stay at the Maplewood Hotel.

My husband & I just returned from The Maplewood Hotel in Saugatuck. This is our 2nd time staying here. The first time was just ok, so we thought we would give it another shot (what the heck) This time was NOT GOOD! We had a standard room $185 a night on the second floor-room 214. View was nice overlooking the park but that was about all that was nice. Now the BAD: 1) The floor in our room was crooked, felt like you were walking downhill from the window to the door. The bathroom was big and nice however there was a pocket door that did not latch therefore everytime you closed it, it would roll open due to the crooked floor. When using the bathroom one of us had to hold the door shut. 2) due to the floor being crooked they had one side of the bedpost lifted up about 4 inches to make the bed flat and even. The WORST of that is they used the Holy Bible and a chunk of wood-see my picture (very tacky) 3) The breakfast is from 9:00-10:00, no coffee available until after 8:00 ( for us early risers this was a problem) also very limited breakfast items. Yogurt, Fruit, Breads, Cheese, Salami & 3 Bean Salad...REALLY, glad I was not hungry. 4) I found the people working there very unfriendly. Even thou the location is good we will not be staying here again. My advice use your money wisely and stay at another B&B (there are alot of nice ones in Saugatuck, or maybe try Martha's Vineyard in South Haven (very nice and well worth the money) We will NOT be returning

We have been there several times before,,,,great experience with stay and food,,,but this time had reservations for 2..separate beds,,,with credit card held,,,on arrival ,,was told we had a room with 1king bed,,,but then said we were """"lucky""" she had a cancelation...for a room with 2 beds...hmmm,,,as that is what we asked for when booking,,,for 250.00 a night we were very disappointed with our breakfast ,,,hard boiled eggs,,,salami,,,3bean salad,,,onion bread,,,cold cereal or instant oatmeal. ,((this was breakfast!!!))). We expected quiche or something a bit more upscale ,,like we had before in our stays,,,the place was clean as always,,,,but the breakfast part,,,very disappointing ,,,will try another bed and breakfast next time,,,so sad,,as we have always loved that spot,,,but not for that price,,and hard boiled eggs for breakfast!!!

First time to Saugatuck, the Maplewood was a perfect place to stay. Beautiful hotel with spacious private rooms and a friendly staff. Centrally located to downtown Saugatuck, never used the car once we arrived. Breakfast was delicious, freshly made and included with your stay. There was plenty of open sitting space to relax and enjoy, even a piano in the large sitting room. Tried to reserved for another weekend stay but they were booked. I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back.

Great location in Saugatuck. Friendly staff. Quirky and a step back in time. Lovely breakfast which is included. The bedrooms are all unique. We really enjoyed being able to stroll to the waterfront and to the arty shops which were minutes away. We also enjoyed being close to the restaurants and local bars (close enough to walk yet far enough away for no noise) . Pool area looks a little bit tired - but if you want to catch the rays head to the beach!

We felt very welcomed from the second we walked through the door. Every member of the staff treated us very well, helped with any questions, gave suggestions for places to visit and eat. We stayed in a deluxe room. Very clean. We had a 2 night stay. Breakfast was fresh fruit, fresh blueberry cupcakes and cinnamon rolls. Then a hot breakfast made for each of us. Different each day. The location of the hotel was next to all the shops and restaurants. A perfect stay. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: We got the deluxe room which was big enough and very nice, but if you can afford the extra money, th...

We chose Maplewood for our winter girls weekend and were very happy with our choice! The moment we walked in we were told "our house is your house" and that's how we felt. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were very good. We were there on a very snowy weekend and enjoyed using the sitting rooms to relax. This is a great location as you can walk to everything! Will definitely return.
