Owner description: HOURS Sunday - Thursday: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Good ideas often start over beer. Always looking to take a good thing too far, we sat down over a beer (or two) and decided that beer itself was a good idea. Of course, not just some easy-drinking, institutional prole beer, but stuff like the beers we'd had at great bars. In short, we wanted beer with flavor. Complexity. Character. Intensity. Not words found in the mass-market lexicon. So with a banjo burner, a bunch of industrial-sized kitchen pots and as many buckets as we could find, we jumped in feet first. Once a week, every week. This led to brewing twice a week and handing out bottle after bottle to everyone we knew. Now, several years later and with a 15 bbl version of our banjo burner and kitchen pots for a brewhouse, we're befuddling the beer judges and converting the masses. One pint at a time. Located in the small lakeside town of Sawyer, MI, Greenbush crafts beers with names like Anger, Closure, Mammoth and Doomslayer-and with nothing under 6% ABV, the monikers are indicative of the styles. The brewery serves beer and a full menu out of its Sawyer taproom seven days a week and currently distributes to bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the state of Michigan, in metro Chicago and Northern Indiana.

“Excellent beer & wide variety”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

Stopped at Greenbush a couple times while in Sawyer for Thanksgiving. Was really impressed with the huge selection of varieties and beer types. Especially thrilled about the cheap growlers ($12) which is an absolute bargain for beer that good. Will absolutely return next time in Sawyer.

“bring earplugs!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Good beer but I'd rather drink it anywhere else. The place is so noisy, has so many TV's tuned to different channels and has no place to sit comfortably. Don't come with anyone you want to have a conversation with. Food is lousy.

“Legend in the making....”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Greenbush is all about the beer. They have a brew for every taste that rivals the very best from Europe or the U.S.
Need to diffuse some tension? Try an "Anger" beer. The stuff will drain off all the real anger life throws at you and readjust your attitude.
The sandwiches are excellent. The brisket sandwich is smokey, hearty and worth the trip. Everything is gauged to go with the beer. The owners and staff are all local and it shows. They all care about what they do and are the pride of Sawyer, Michigan.

“Good time”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

The brewery and Sawyer have been discovered. Gone are the days we parked in front and sat down without obstruction. Today the expanded parking was full and there was a 20 min wait for a table. Still, it's all worth it, the beer is very good, so too are the pretzels and cheese and chips.

“Now a full blown kitchen has opened up at Greenbush”
Reviewed 21 August 2013

I'll preface this with the caveat that two of the owners were students of mine and one is my son. With that in mind I can assure you I can be as hard or gentle as the next person in writing a review. I do not in any way have any ties with Greenbush that would result in my personal gain. Greenbush keeps on trucking. They now have a full blown kitchen, pizza ovens, expanding meals (yes , you can take that in more ways than one), and soon, even more seating. The brisket and pulled pork are outstanding, the on tap root beer was just featured at Taste of Chikaming, and their pizzas are evolving with new recipes regularly. You will not be disappointed but get there early. Yes, very kid friendly. The owners have 7 kids of their own. You will NOT be disappointed.
