Owner description: HOURS Sunday - Thursday: 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Good ideas often start over beer. Always looking to take a good thing too far, we sat down over a beer (or two) and decided that beer itself was a good idea. Of course, not just some easy-drinking, institutional prole beer, but stuff like the beers we'd had at great bars. In short, we wanted beer with flavor. Complexity. Character. Intensity. Not words found in the mass-market lexicon. So with a banjo burner, a bunch of industrial-sized kitchen pots and as many buckets as we could find, we jumped in feet first. Once a week, every week. This led to brewing twice a week and handing out bottle after bottle to everyone we knew. Now, several years later and with a 15 bbl version of our banjo burner and kitchen pots for a brewhouse, we're befuddling the beer judges and converting the masses. One pint at a time. Located in the small lakeside town of Sawyer, MI, Greenbush crafts beers with names like Anger, Closure, Mammoth and Doomslayer-and with nothing under 6% ABV, the monikers are indicative of the styles. The brewery serves beer and a full menu out of its Sawyer taproom seven days a week and currently distributes to bars, restaurants and retailers throughout the state of Michigan, in metro Chicago and Northern Indiana.

“Up and comer -- for food and drink”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Come for the handcrafted beer. Stay for the sandwiches. If you do that, you will be coming back a lot for lunch because the food is creative, tasty, interesting, and great.

“Beer and food”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

Beer is okay - very hoppy with unique tastes - some good/some bad, depending on your taste. Prefer other breweries in Berrien Co. Food is good. Atmosphere is great for lunch during the week, energetic and crowded on weekends. Overall not a bad place in Sawyer to frequent from time to time.

“Make the trip for great beer & atmosphere”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

This is place is a terrific little gem in tiny but very cute Sawyer. I just made my third trip there while my wife was gambling at Four Winds. I am a fan of craft beer and small breweries/brewpubs, but not all of the products from these places are good. The product here is excellent and there is very good variety - more approachable light beers as well as big and heavy porters and stouts, that are very creative and flavorful. I had an imperial porter that was dynamite. The atmosphere is very cool, kind of warehouse/industrial chic and the brewery itself is in back. The service is friendly and helpful and they will let you have a little sample of a beer before you commit, which is great. Very good food, too, especially the pulled pork (they have their own smoker). This place is worth a side trip to Sawyer for a visit, as is Tapistry up the road in Bridgman, which also has good beer and food.

“Excellent beer & wide variety”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

Stopped at Greenbush a couple times while in Sawyer for Thanksgiving. Was really impressed with the huge selection of varieties and beer types. Especially thrilled about the cheap growlers ($12) which is an absolute bargain for beer that good. Will absolutely return next time in Sawyer.
