“Another Wonderful visit to South Haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2010

We had visited South Haven and stayed at the Carriage House the previous year so were looking forward to returning to both the town and the B&B.

Suzanne and David are wonderful hosts who went out of their way to make sure our stay was pleasant. From giving tips on where to eat, to what activities were happening in town, both Suzanne and David were always available for questions and help. We wouldn't have known about the wonderful Hawkshead Restaurant at the golf course had it not been for Suzanne and David.

The Carriage House itself was once again beautiful, clean and well maintained. The breakfasts were hearty and the service was fantastic. Appetizers are served at 5.00pm if you get a little hungry before dinner and they are delicious also. Not to mention the popcorn and cookies.. :)

We stayed in the White Chapel room which had it's own private balcony which I enjoyed very much. We also had a jacuzzi which I used once and found it very relaxing! The views over the harbour are simply stunning. The reason I gave only 4 stars for rooms and sleep quality was that we heard our neighbours in the room above us a lot and they liked to move around late at night. One night they were up until 1.15am laughing, flushing toilets and moving around which we heard enough that I was woken up.

Other than that one night, the ambiance at the Carriage House is one of relaxation. The tiered porches are lovely to sit on and read a book in peace. The gardens are well landscaped and maintained.

South Haven itself is a place we are very fond of. The beaches are clean and comfortable, the lake this year was just the right temp to swim in and there are always lots of activities taking place. We love to stroll on the piers every morning after breakfast and every evening before dinner.

Thank you Suzanne and David for another lovely stay at the Carriage House.

My girlfirend and I went to celebrate my birthday and found The Carriage House to be the nicest B&B that we have ever experienced. I loved it so much that my husband and I are going back the first week-end in October. The rooms are clean and spacious and the location is superb. A short walk to the beach, the bike trail and downtown South Haven.

Our weekend was filled with quietness and relaxation. Everyone was super friendly and courteous. The views were breathtaking. The room was spacious. The whirlpool bath.......incredible.
The breakfasts rival five star restaurants. Unbelievable and so delicious.
We will definitely return.

Carriage House at the Harbor provided us a comfortable, large room and delicious meals. Our third-floor room included a spacious bath with jacuzzi and private, covered porch with a beautiful view of the harbor and town of South Haven. Each morning's breakfast was fresh and home made, served in a dining room overlooking the harbor. Even more delightful was the 5:00 p.m. hors d'oeuvres reception. There were a combination of hot and cold offerings, all delicious. The reception provided an opportunity to meet with the other guests on the outdoor patio (over wine many of us brought along) and make dinner plans.

If you're looking for a relaxing retreat, I'd recommend the Carriage House.

Everything was perfect. Suzanne and David genuinely made us feel welcome and comfortable. My wife and I enjoyed two days, July 21st and 22nd, and we can’t imagine a nicer place or a better location for visiting Michigan. We stayed in the Concord room which was immaculate, roomy and quiet. Our days began with a delicious gourmet breakfast overlooking the picturesque harbor. We then took a stroll on the powder sand beach (only a block away) before setting out for Saugatuck/Douglas, Fenn Valley Winery, or one of Michigan’s many destinations. Everything is so close that we leisurely made it back for 5:00pm hor d’ourves which were amazing. We’d then take another walk on the beach before walking into town (4 blocks through a park and over a draw bridge) for dinner at Clementine’s or another South Haven establishment. We ended the day with wine on the deck, watching the boats. On our next stay, we want to rent kayaks from the place ½ block away. We also want to take a sunset sail on the tall ship, “Friend’s Good Will”, whose dock is literally a walk through the park on the way into town. Obviously, we recommend Carriage House to anyone, however, we selfishly want to keep it all to ourselves.

A dream retreat for a romantic Victorian enthusiast! Innkeepers, Suzanne and David, have made this gorgeous Victorian house feel like home! Their impeccable attention to detail in Victorian furnishings and decor as well as their gracious hospitality, gourmet breakfasts in a serene setting, knowledge of the best local venues and restaurants, set this B&B apart from others. You will love all the nooks and crannies of this home from the various porches to the beautiful view of the harbor. Suzanne has great tips on locations for the antique buff!
