We needed a room for one night, and we were thrilled to get a room at Old Harbor. Our room was very spacious with a jacuzzi and a great view! Although no balcony, we had a huge picture window. Our plan was to relax. We pulled the two chairs up in line with the window, opening them to enjoy the air, breeze, and sounds of the riverfront. The entry/front desk area smelled musty, but the rest of the hotel was fine. We'd stay again.

Room Tip: The waterfront view is definitely preferred.

One of the best perks of my job is looking out on the harbor! I never tire of watching the boats in summer, but the harbor is always beautiful. It sparkles in the sunlight and shimmers in the moonlight. Sometimes in winter it freezes over, but at the first sign of spring fishermen are bundled up and headed back out to the big lake early in the morning. I watch the seasons change day by day. Relaxing and watching the world go by on the harbor outside your window is one the best reasons to stay at Old Harbor Inn. We look forward to welcoming you back.

We had a great stay here at the Harbor Inn. It really is the best location in town if you just want to park your car and walk everywhere. Beach, bars, restaurants and shopping within walking distance and hanging out over the harbor was very nice. We stayed in #6 so yeah, loudest room in the hotel but it did not bother my husband and once I got used to being right in the mix of shops and bar/restaurants folks hanging out all around us (or below us) it was fun and not a problem. If you do want quiet and privacy, this is not the place for you or be sure to tell them when you reserve a room that you book away from the Idler. (shops weren't crazy after 8). Clean enough, well appointed - the location is best and the make or break for you will be whether you want quiet or can handle a little hustle bustle from the harbor below.

Room Tip: We had a spacious room (room 6) but it was louder with the Idler below. Ask for rooms away from the Idler and other bar if you want quiet before midnight/one am. Didn't bother us too much though and fun in the afternoon, bar atmosphere listening to their music while drinking our own beverages.

Thank you! You describe us really well. If you like staying on the water, if you like being in the heart of the action and if you like to park your car once and walk to the beaches, shops, restaurants and yes, nightlife, you will love Old Harbor Inn. But if one of your top priorities is quiet, and it's a summer weekend, you may be unhappy. We do our best to be honest and upfront during our reservation and confirmation process. It is best when first time guests call us directly so we can help them choose the room that best suits their needs.

My family stayed here after driving into town and scrambling to find somewhere to stay. The management was very accommodating since we didn't get there until 10:30pm and then they even stayed late to make sure we found everything to be suitable. The room was spacious and clean, it would have been a great place to spend more than a few days. The location is perfect for this cute little town. We had a very comfortable stay.

Thank you! It is no fun searching for a room in a town you have never visited. We are delighted we could accommodate you, and your search ended with a relaxing stay. Judging from your profile, you are world travelers. That makes your review of us and our home, South Haven, even nicer!

We stayed in the Pomeroy which is its own little building down the street from the actual hotel. King bed, pull out couch for the kids, perfect for this family of four. My only negative was the lobby hours b/c we we left town around 8 am and the lobby was closed. Regular hotel room keys (not ours) opened the lobby so we waited for another guest to let us and I just left our keys on the desk. Besides that one little hiccup I would stay again :)

The Pomeroy is very popular and we are glad you enjoyed your stay! It is perfect for a family. There is plenty of room to spread out on the private deck right on the river at the base of the drawbridge, and still walking distance to everything in town. Access to the beautiful outdoor pool area and your own designated parking at your door is nice, too. The Pomeroy may be the lowest lodging price point with outdoor space on the river, which makes it a great value, too. So sorry about leaving the keys at the inn in the morning. We look forward to welcoming you back.

We just returned from a 3-night stay at the Old Harbor Inn. Our friends raved about this place (great location on the harbor, walking distance to beach, stores & restaurants, and night life on the docked "party barge"). So 6 of us decided to make a weekend of it. The area was nice, but the "party" atmosphere we were looking for was nowhere in sight. We paid extra for a room with a jacuzzi. While using it on the 1st night, we noticed scum building up at the water line. The next day after housekeeping had already cleaned our room, it appeared they completely ignored the jacuzzi area, leaving the black ring around the tub, a wet, used washcloth having over the edge, and did not refresh the towels or robes. We called the front desk and they immediately sent up 2 staff members to clean it properly. Whenever we asked questions of the front desk, they were unknowledgeable and couldn't provide much info. The "heated pool" had a door that opened out into a parking lot and was open most of the time and not very secure. The pool area was extremely warm during our first 2 nights (as it should be), but on the 3rd night, it was very cool and appeared to have been shut off. When we called the front desk we were told they couldn't do anything about it so we demanded they call management so we could speak to them. Someone showed up (we were able to see them running around from the pool area as they tried to help another customer get into their room as keys didn't work). After 20 minutes of watching them run around, the guy from management never came to see us. We had to call the front desk and ask to see him. The guy came reluctantly down into the pool area, made excuses for the pool, and then when he didn't want to listen to what we had to say, rudely turned and said "I'll be upstairs if you want to talk to me." As he was leaving someone made a comment about how rude he was which prompted him to return and say "If you don't like it, you don't have to stay here" and then he left again. This was completely uncalled for and inconsiderate. His attitude towards us customers was absolutely horrible! He did get one thing right though...we didn't HAVE to stay there, but we CHOSE to stay there based on a recommendation. We were warned this wasn't a nice hotel chain, and that it was a bit pricey, but worth it. You can bet we will never stay here again after our experience. Neither will our other friends. We'll try Hotel Nichols down the street next time or drive the 4 miles to the Hampton Inn as South Haven is a nice town we would revisit.

Room Tip: Wifi only works in lobby; A/C very loud; rooms on harbor side can get noisy if boaters are enjoying themselves on their boats outside your window.

There are two sides of every story. Bottom line, our staff did their best to appease a group of six, who in their own words were seeking a party atmosphere, at night, in our pool area. The front desk/maintenance man, who was actively working with another guest, did remove himself from the pool area when the six became colorfully vocal. He said he would be happy to talk to them at the front desk when they were calm. He did offer to refund their rooms if they wished to check out.

The pool temperature was set at 85 degrees each night, and front desk did turn it even higher for them upon request. Everything appeared to be working properly, so there was no more that could be done that evening. There is a slider in the pool area which remains locked except when a guest uses it, which this group did.

True, our housekeeping absolutely did not clean the Jacuzzi adequately when they made over their room after the first night of their stay. Immediately two housekeepers were sent in to clean it properly and their room rate was adjusted. We regret these guests did not find the pool area warm enough the last night, and were dissatisfied with their stay.
