never thought I'd say it but this hotel with the uneven service deserves a new review...stayed there recently and found everything better....i still wouldn't call it "upscale lodging" but the room I was in (and have been in before) didn't have the same musty smell...had new bedding linens....new lux towels....and the lobby has had a re working with a sitting area with a view of the river. Finally some work has also been done outside with bar type chairs and table areas added to the decking over the river and the overall place looks much better!!
still don't know if i'd pay the inseason prices but for the off season and the easy access to town (show, shops, and restaurants an easy walk) its a good value!!

This was our first stay in South Haven and wanted a place within walking distance of downtown. The Old Harbor Inn was definitely that. The location is great. It was the Icebreaker Festival so we were able to just walk downtown to the festivities right from the Inn.
The man who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. When we got to our room we were very pleased. It was a suite with a king bed, fireplace, and kitchenette. Nice and roomy and looked recently remodeled. The kitchenette was nice to have even if we weren't planning on cooking. The only downfall of the room was the bathroom was very cold. Besides that though it had a large shower and had Bath and Body works lotions and soaps. We heard reviews that said the restaurant nearby was very noisy but we didn't hear a thing...and I know they had live music both nights.
Overall we had a great time and would definitely book again.

The Old Harbor Inn was nice. I'll start with that. It wasn't terrible. I'm guessing it was family owned, which is usually a good thing - but the standards weren't quite up to what I've become accustomed to by staying at the typical corporate hotel, ie. Holiday Inn or the like.
The good: Location, location, location. Right on the harbor - as the name states, and in walking distance to any relavant activity in South Haven.
The bad: Parking - there is virtually none, other then street parking, or across the street and down the road in the 'public' lot. Good luck - especially when loading and unloading your baggage. Ammenities: I admit, I'm am spoiled by the free 'continential breakfast' that you get at most corporate hotels. I love breakfast!! But more importantly - I love coffee!! Old Harbor in does offer free coffee. There is one pot for the entire hotel, in he lobby. And its not really good coffee. And they didn't have any sugar for me. I had to ask for it - then wait for 3 mintues while the desk clerk rummaged in the basement for 4 packets of sugar.
Beds: Hum . . this is a rough one. The room we stayed in had two bedrooms - it was really more like an Efficiency than a hotel room - which was cool. But sadly, the entire place had only 3 working windows. Thats right - the smaller bedroom didn't even have a window (kind of like staying in an interior room on a cruise ship), and the windows in the larger room didn't open at all. That wouldnt have been so bad, if there had been more then one window-type airconditioner. But alas, there was only one in the room, and it was no where near the bedrooms. So forget about closing your door - unless you want to sweat to death. The actual bed was a kind of lumpy - obvioulsy a cheap mattress - and the bed frame creaked as if it was dying slowly, every time you moved.
Lets see, more good: the housekeeping was very friendly, and through. Our room was very clean. The view was outstanding: directly into the harbor, and we could watch the boats come and go. But, then down side to the harbor view is that the Old Harbor Inn is located directly across from 'The Idler' - which is a bar/ resturant that plays loud music every night until approx. midnight. So if you want to go to bed any earlier- you have to listen to the music until you fall asleep.
To wrap up: not the finest hotel I've ever staying in. But also not the worst. Do keep in mind, South Haven seems to be a 'summer town'. And I didn't see anything that looked any better that was anywhere's near the action of the town. So, if you are looking to fully experience South Haven, without having to drive back to your hotel every time you need something, or to sleep - then I would reccomend staying there. All in all, as long as your expectations are in line, you'll have a fine time. Its not the Hilton - but then again it doesn't cost what the Hilton does either.

We stayed here at this hotel last Labor Day can came back again this year. We were a little worried about the loud music some have wrote about, though we didn't experience it last year. What people need to understand is that this hotel is spread out. There is what I would discribe as a main building with rooms in the interior(which is the area we stayed in last year) and the rest are spread out over the Old Harbor Landing, a mix of shoppes and a few resturants. The noise was not an issue for us because we stayed Sunday and Monday night. So there were no bands performing. I think they perform mainly on weekends and holidays. If there were a band we would have been in the worse room to hear the noise. So it all depends on when you go and what room you are in when it comes to hearng the music.
Our room was nice with a jaccuzi tub, fulll size sofa and recliner. We had small kitchentte. One and only complaint is our room was musty and damp. We didn't complain just burned a candles to help with the smell. My mom stayed in a room above us and her room was not musty at all. Her room had a fireplace and a larger kitchentte with small stove burners. Her room must have been recently renovated. There was a faint smell of paint and the bathroom looked very updated.
Location is great. You can't beat it. You just park your car once and really never have to move it. So many things are in walking distance, movie theater, stores, resturants, and pier/beach.

My sister and our daughters take an annual "chick trip" to South Haven to enjoy the lake, the Kerry Mark Salon & Spa and the shopping and food. We stayed at Old Harbor Inn last year and there were certainly some glitches. However, we loved the location enough we wanted to re-book for this year.

This year we were absolutely delighted with all the improvements they have made. They are still in process, but they have done significant upgrading of rooms, amnetities and the property!

It still appears to be somewhat "family" run. The desk clerk was a delightful older woman who has kind and friendly, though a little slow and a bit confused with our reservation. However, she was very accommodating. We got a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with a hot tub and fireplace, AND right on the channel overlooking the Idler Restaurant and all the boats and marinas. We were concerned about nighttime noise, but experienced NONE - once in the room in the bedrooms we heard nothing outside. The bathroom amneities were cucumber lime from Bath & Body works. The rooms were clean and well stocked. Some of the end tables need replacing, as they were scratched, but everything else was great!

We re-booked for next year with NO hesitation! The location is awesome! You can walk almost anywhere from here, and with older teenagers, that was awesome that they could come and go as they wanted as long as they had their cell phones with them! There were tons of wonderful places to eat and shop within a few blocks. Don't miss this place! Price was AWESOME! Only $150 (during the week) for the beautiful 2 brdrm/bathroom suite!
