“Last Minute Grab”
Reviewed 8 July 2012

Pulled into South Haven towards the end of a Lake Michigan Circle Tour. Saw the vacancy. Looked at the room. The price was right for a B & B. Charlie was a great host. Anything you needed, Charle would get. Great source of information. Great talker. Room and bathroom was comfortable and up to date. Place had a nice charm and was conveniently located. Beach access across the street. Easy walk to the harbor and town out the back of the property. Great old time front porch for sitting relaxing. Tiki Bar out front for having a couple of drinks and people watching. This was also where an expanded continental style breakfast was served in the morning. Just park the car and enjoy everything the area offers, within walking distance of this quaint property.

It was a busy weekend in South Haven, the visitors bureau said there were only 3 rooms left, and this was the largest to accommodate 2 couples, it was last minute so I took it. I paid $450 for the 2 br suite that was hideous. The ancient carpet was muddy and ruined, the decor was made up of random things that looked plucked from the trash of a frat house. There was a kitchen sink in the bathroom, torn vinyl floor, giant plunger next the toilet, toilet seat was old tattered wood, mold under sink, and a shower that was gross, had no water pressure, and 2 setting: too hot or too cold. I really feel ripped off by Charlie, the owner. If it's the last room in town, just skip it.

My husband and I stayed here with my sister and brother in law Aug. 7-9. Very cool building with a really nice front porch to sit at to people watch. Our rooms were very clean and pretty specious except there wasn't a sitting area to watch tv for my husband when I went to bed really. There was no espn available. The tv channels were very limited. The owners did go out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. They even supplied bags of ice and bottles of water to take to the beach. They did offer a pretty decent breakfast ranging from fresh fruit, pop tarts, cereal, oatmeal, bagels, toast and even peanut butter! They had a tikki hut but not alcolhol was avaliable. I didn't think it was kid friendly. No play area for them. There is no elevator either. Lake Michigan was pretty close within walking distance so that was nice. Shopping and restaurants were close .

If you are just looking for a place to sleep that is on the North Beach then this is fine. It was no frills but it fit the bill for us and with last minute notice this was the only option available. It was quiet, the room was small but we only slept in there anyway, tiny shower had great pressure so overall not terrible. The bed was a little firm for my taste but it was only for 1 night. If you need any information then Charlie is the man to see. The woman who works there had no idea about what was going on in the area and couldn't tell us how to get to the South Beach Pier from the back of the property. She obviously didn't want to be bothered and had us walking in circles around the marina. The porch area is an awesome place to unwind. Parking is a little tight so if you have a large truck it probably wouldn't fit. If we go back to this area we would try to get into one of the B&Bs but the Sunset Inn will do in a pinch. Also, no hair dryer, no shampoo, no iron, no frills at all. A bed, bathroom, & shower are all you get.

Room Tip: Ask Charlie for any specials

Came here for a weekend getaway at the beach with my wife. We had a terrific time. The location is great. Beach just across the streeet, short walk to town. Marina in the backyard. The operators do a tremendous job of ensuring you have a great time.Great recommendations for what to do in town (dining). Can't wait to come again!

Close to the North Beach but a very old property. Very small room and bathroom needs updating. Room was clean. There wasn't a closet or blow dryer in the room but I was told there was a blow dryer on the coat rack out front that I could use. TV was very small. There isn't anyplace to store cold beverages or food. At other B & B's there is usually a refrigerator on the premises for the quests to use. Breakfast was served outside at the Beach House which was a small open shack with table and chairs. We made the reservation over the phone and were quoted a price. Upon arriving, there was no record of our reservation. We were given a room based on what I said I was quoted but was told I had to pay cash or there was an extra $10.00 for using a credit card. I was never informed of this when making the initial reservation. The location was great (we were there for the beach) and the staff friendly but they were not upfront about the price. It was, however, cheaper than the other B & B's in town($135.00 plus tax) but you get what you pay for which was location.
