Our first visit to this restaurant which is on the river and provides a nice location for lunch. We had read about the perch sandwiches that are served and were looking for great expectations. Well I was disappointed, when the waitress said that the perch was ocean perch. To me ocean perch is ok but not like the Michigan Perch. The service was excellent and with the location made the lunch enjoyable but if you want Michigan Perch, we will have to try another restaurant.

Food was fine; but the place is clearly a friendly hangout for the boating crowd so was fun to be part of that.

Been coming here regularly since 1998. Perch is pricey, but tasty. The restaurant makes no pretenses: it is quality lake and bar food. The waitstaff is friendly, efficient, and typically curvaceous. Beer is ice cold, although more regional and microbrews would be a welcome addition. Best place to sit for a view is near the river. Best for music is the western annex. Live music is pleasant without being so loud you cannot talk or soak up the ambiance. Lots of locals plus weekend house and condo owners with nearly as many Illinois car plates and Michigan. Not fancy, just good.

My husband and I are from the Kalamazoo area and wanted to venture towards the lake for "date night". We had heard Captain Lou's was the bar in South Haven to go on the weekend so we thought we try it out on a less crowded week day. We were so suprised on how much character the place had, especially right next to the river. The service was great and the perch was excellent! We highly recommend this place and will definitely come back to party!

Never got to try the food as apparently the service is so slow that the host had to keep pushing back our seating time. Finally left frustrated. Hopefully there will be more luck at the St. Joe location.
