“Very cozy - Great Location !”
Reviewed 3 September 2008

Hotel Nichols is a very quaint hotel, right in the center of South Haven. We had the B apartment booked, and we felt totally at home. You had everything you needed (except we could have used a microwave !). The deck was a lot bigger than i expected too. I would definitely stay there again !

Check it out -- it's worth your money !

My husband and I were taking our first trip with our 9 month old. We chose South Haven because it was a 2 hour drive from home and could leave if it was too difficult vacationing with an infant. Hotel Nichols was one of few hotels in the area that accepted children and was close to the beach. Also, the hotel had received great ratings on Trip Advisor. We were not impressed. The owner made us pay for both nights upon check-in. We ended up leaving after one night because our baby could not sleep with us all in one room. Therefore, we were out $140 for the night we did not stay. She refused a refund. The place was VERY old with creaky floors and bed. We like antique but prefer updated bathroom amenities(sink that was rusting, toilet seat barely attached, separate hot and cold faucet handles, reused shower and bath products). The air conditioning was a window unit and the door key was an actual metal key that was difficult to lock and unlock. Maybe Hotel Nichols is the place for someone who likes true old fashion hotels but this was not the place for us.

Hotel Nichols regrets that this guest had an unpleasant experience. We are a Historic Inn of over 100 years and do not advertise as an modern hotel. There are pics of every room on our website. We give historic tours of our hotel on a regular basis. You may come tour our hotel and you WILL NOT find any rusted bathrooms. I am sad to report that this guest only reserved a room for 2 guests. We provide apartments and adjoining rooms, cots for guests wt children. The reservation was made in advance wt full knowledge of the size of the room. Party begame upset when the hotel was full vacancy and they could not up-grade to larger room. Every hotel requires a credit card at check in.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Nichols on our honeymoon. We absolutely loved it. I like how each room had its own theme. We stayed in the blue room and it was great!!! Staying there was like home. We felt very welcomed there. Anna Rajter was wonderful. She was very helpful and made great breakfast in the morning. I loved the Blueberry Shortcake. You HAVE to try it!! The authentic antiques and the decor of the hotel really brought us back in time. We enjoyed seeing the pictures of the town and the hotel when it was first build. The location of the hotel was in the right spot. You were able to access the down town area by walking and also the lake front. I know that my husband and I will be spending our anniversary's there from now on.

For a 2 day family get-away last summer, my husband and I brought our 3 year old to South Haven. Not only was I amazed at the scenery and downtown shopping, but Hotel Nichols was fantastic. The staff helped us choose a room to accomodate our toddler and also directed us to child friendly shops and activities to keep us busy, and more adult friendly things to do next time we visit. The hotel was so clean- bathrooms spotless and not a dust-bunny for my toddler to find. My husband and I have already referred our honeymooning friends, and are looking forward to a Mom-and-Dad-only weekend soon.

We absolutely loved Hotel Nichols. We stayed in the Blue Room and it was great. It is like taking a trip to the 19th Century with its decorations but the comfort of the 21st Century with Cable TV and AC ... and indoor plumbing. Will definitely go there again. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

  • Liked — It is hard to say because everything was wonderful. Would have to say that I really enjoyed the companionship of the owners of Hotel Nichols. They opened up to you like family!
