“The Cottages are Wonderful!”
Reviewed 10 September 2009

We met some family and friends in South Haven Michigan at the Victoria Resort for Labor Day weekend The cottages are separate buildings from the B&B - almost like little houses (well equipped). The set up allowed us all to have some privacy, cook-in for most meals, and be completely comfortable at a very reasonable price. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful about everything we needed or wanted. The Lake Michigan beach was only a short walk. The surroundings were peaceful and lovely. We would all stay there again in a heartbeat and look forward to doing so. We stayed in cottages B and D. They each have 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a very nice bathroom with a jacuzzi. B especially has a large living room where the 7 of us could gather. Both have fireplaces. B has a screened in porch - small but so nice for mornings. D has a somewhat private backyard with a deck. Both have grills and picnic tables. It was perfect!

My wife and I stayed in Cottage B of the Victoria Resort in late August, 2009. We found it to be a wonderful place to relax. It is not elegant, for those looking for such accommodations, but wonderfully rustic, comfortable, and clean. It is very close to beach, dining, shopping. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and friendly. Only one thing would have made our visit even more special: if cottage guests might have the option of sharing breakfast with guests of the inn. But this small thing does not dampen our appreciation of the Victoria Resort.

The Victoria Resort was awesome! We were given a lot of attention upon arrival. We were told about the resort, town, restaurants, etc. Then we were given a tour of our room, including how to turn on the whirlpool, cable TV, etc. They had a nice tennis court on the grounds, as well as a pool, basketball hoop and shuffleboard. They had all the equipment to use too. We brought our bikes, but they had some available to use. To top it off, after we checked out, they told us to feel free to stay on the grounds as long as we like that day. This worked out great as we still wanted to go to the beach (short walk). Then we changed clothes at the resort before heading out. The breakfast was also great. We had the yummy egg/sausage souffle. We'd definately come back and will not consider any other place in South Haven!

Our stay at Victoria Resort was very nice. This was our first time staying at a B&B instead of a large hotel. We arrived early, before check in, but our room was ready. The front desk receptionist, Jenny, was very friendly and welcoming, and gave us a brief low down of the happenings of South Haven. Our room, a standard queen, was very nice and clean. The only down side was the bathroom, since it is original to the building, was very small. But it was clean and well maintained. The hotel is about 2 blocks, and short 5 minute walk, to the public beach, and a quick drive (maybe a 15-20 minute walk) into downtown South Haven. Breakfast was a 9:30, which we chose from options of 8, 8:30, 9, 9:30, and 10. Every morning they had a variety of muffins, fruit, bagels, and cereal, and a delicious hot specialty dish each morning. We had a very yummy apple french toast bake thing (delicious!) and the next morning they served a tasty sun-dried tomato quiche. They even gave me the recipe for the quiche b/c my husband liked it so much! The grounds were well groomed with out-door gathering places to read a book or relax with friends. The pool was nice and they had sports courts with free equipment. The staff were all so friendly and very helpful! They do also have free wi-fi. Overall, we had a really great stay and the next time we're visiting South Haven we'll definitely stay here again. My only word of advisement would be that since the building is a historic landmark, the building is old. So as a result you can hear some of the plumbing from the other rooms and the walls are not as sound proof as a modern hotel. Other than that, wonderful little B&B!!

We visit SH quite often. This time we stayed 2 nights. We headed home the day the crowds were coming in for Memorial Day. I feel we came at the perfect time, because it was not crowded, and everything everywhere was in place for the holiday weekend. The service was excellent. All employees were very friendly. The grounds looked perfect. We stayed in room 102 which is on the first floor and closest to the front door. A Dimplex electric fireplace at the foot of the bed, in case you're there when it's chilly. Central air conditioning too. A vcr in room, and the office has movie library. The queen size bed was very comforable. The bathroom is small. I am 6-1 and 280 and it sufficed. Even a little bowl of chocolate candy on a table in the hallway. The beach (not South Beach or North Beach) was 2 blocks away. Downtown was about 6 blocks away. So glad they have complimentary bikes to use. Good ones too (Trek brand). There is an inground pool, but it was just going to open like the day after we left. There is a tennis court and a basketball court, and tennis racquets and basketballs. The hot breakfasts were outstanding with choice of all the normal hot and cold beverages.. If you prefer something smaller, there is cereal, bananas yougurt, muffins, and etc, We've stayed in several bed & breakfasts so we can honestly say this is a good one. We will be back..

My fiance and I stayed at the Victoria Resort for a fall weekend in October and had a great time. We stayed in the King Deluxe room and it was very nice. The staff was very friendly, the property very clean and the breakfasts were delicious. We took advantage of the fire pit one night and roasted marshmallows to make s'mores. We also used the bikes that the property offers and took a nice bike ride into town and along the water.

We had a great romantic weekend in South Haven. We went to a couple wine tastings, went to the apple orchard to pick apples, had some great dinners in downtown South Haven. The weather was unusually warm the weekend we went, so we were able to take full advantage of the outdoor activities. The fall colors were beautiful also.

We loved the Victoria Resort... get the upstairs King Suite if you can... very quiet, great location (a block from the beach) and great hosts and help... we will most definitely be back.

Loved South Haven and the area - came in July with the family and came back as a couple - Cranes Orchard/Pies and Stephensons Farm Market were great in the fall... rode the Kal-Haven trail to Stephensons - really nice bike ride... also took a day trip to Holland (best downtown/shopping in the area) and Grand Haven (nice downtown and beach/lighthouse)... overall just a great, great experience.
