Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 16 South Haven B&B and Inns
Reviewed 18 October 2012

My sisters and I always return to surround ourselves with the ultimate bed and breakfast experience at our favorite place, the Yelton Manor. Every attention to the smallest detail is superb. The wonderful smells of fresh baked cookies and brownies fill the air when you arrive at the Yelton. You can find a cozy spot to enjoy the view, a book, a conversation or just sit and take in all the wonderful touches this gorgeous B&B has to offer! The beautifully appointed rooms are so inviting and absolutely immaculate. The delicious breakfast Elaine prepares is deliciously made with fresh ingredients and an experience your tastebuds will love! We enjoy every single detail of the Yelton Manor so much, we have come to think of it as our "second home". You absolutely MUST experience the overflowing and most beautiful gardens in the Spring or Summer; you will think you have stepped into a magical land of flowers surrounding this inviting landscape. You can sit in the swing and dream away; close your eyes and hear the water that is walking distance from the Yelton. Don't miss the sunsets! Elaine, Robert and staff are the best! They do everything to make you enjoy your experience. You will find yourself greatly anticipating your next visit! This place is the Gem in Michigan! Cynthia

Every year I get together in the fall with my girlfriends of many many years for our girls-only weekend. This year was spent in beautiful South Haven, MI at the Yelton Manor B&B. We generally look for a B&B for our weekends as they tend to be comfortably relaxed, more flexible and very cozy - Yelton Manor was all of the above! Our two-night stay was wonderful. This is such an interesting place - there are books everywhere and owner Elaine has organized them in a way that you can browse throughout three floors of various topics at your leisure. Every corner turned revealed another little nook or conversation place often warmed by a lovely fireplace or phenomenal view of a seemingly accidental garden with magnificent color and variety. There is always something to read, watch or contemplate without even leaving the Yelton Manor, but if you do, you will appreciate it's perfect location. Literally, across the street is Lake Michigan and a very short stroll takes you into the town of South Haven where you can satisfy your browsing needs, visit a spa (we thoroughly enjoyed pedicures, facials and massages at the Kerry Mark Spa - Terry does a wonderful facial FYI) and nibble away at lots of places. Don't miss the Olive Cart for "sampling" - it will eliminate the need for lunch! When you tire of lovely boutiques and unique shops, head back to the Yelton Manor for an afternoon light repast complete with brownies, coffee, chocolate, popcorn and places to put your feet up and chat. Don't miss the Yelton Manor if you are looking for sanity...at least for a couple of days. Enjoy!

Room Tip: The Ivy Room was wonderful! While not huge, it is right next to a small cozy sitting room that seem...

Thanks TripAdvisor world! In looking for a weekend getaway in Michigan for my husband's birthday, of course I consulted TripAdvisor. Everyone raved about the Yelton Manor Bed & Breakfast, and so I emailed Elaine and Robert and made a reservation. It's an easy drive from the Chicago area to South Haven and the fall foliage was stunning, once we got to Michigan. Check in was a breeze and our room was lovely - the Iris Room on the 3rd floor is HUGE. It has a king size 4 poster bed, a sitting area, a small flat screen TV (which we never used), a huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi. It was impeccably clean, like the entire B&B. This B&B was SO comfortable, cozy and warm with fires in all the fireplaces, light jazz and standards playing and so many goodies throughout the day -we felt very well taken care of and pampered. Don't bother bringing anything to read with you - I think every non-fiction book ever published is tucked away somewhere in the house.....it was hard to choose what to read, so I caved and selected about 5 that I delved into over the weekend. Perfect location right along the lake, and a very short walk to downtown South Haven. Elaine had a lot of recommendations for where to eat, and all in all it was a perfect stay in a beautiful B&B. The other guests were lovely, too...very friendly and sociable. Two thumbs way up! PS: if you are in a new relationship, you might want to choose a different room: there are French doors that close off the bathroom from the bedroom, but they have windows with lacy curtains, so it is possible to see in to the bathroom while someone is using it. :-)

Room Tip: Check out the website - very good depictions of layout and size. Third floor rooms require climbing...

Memorial Day weekend was our second stay at the Yelton. Our first visit was Labor Day week 2010. We weren’t sure we would like a bed & breakfast, but we did – at least this one! So much that we returned for another visit, & will in the future. Everything was very low-key. Elaine & Robert & the rest of the team took excellent care of us. The Inn was spotless & cozy – lots of nooks & crannies if you wanted to hide out & read one of their bazillion books (quite an eclectic collection!) The food at breakfast & happy hour was great. It was almost as relaxing as yoga or a spa visit. No worries!

This was our second time staying here. It is everything a B&B should be! It's so quiet, and you are free to roam around the house to find little nooks to sit and read or just relax. This time we stayed in the Rose Suite, which has a super deep jet tub, a nice sitting area, and a peek-a-boo view of Lake Michigan. The bed was comfortable to sleep in, which is saying alot for me since I hate the super firm beds you usually find in hotels. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They have a small map of the area and copies of the menus from area restaurants. They will even call and make reservations for you. The beach is right across the street...it's small, but clean, and you can walk quite a ways up or down the beach. Town is within walking distance, too, which is nice. Breakfast in the mornings had a variety to appeal to everyone, and if you have any dietary needs, just let them know ahead of time. I look forward to our next stay! Thanks Elaine, Robert, Mary, and everyone else! (I'm horrible with names, sorry!)

Room Tip: If you want more privacy and less socializing, you can stay in the Guest House. We've stayed in...

Awesome B&B - Everything was perfect!
The hosts were very warm and welcoming and the food was excellent. The inn is very beautiful and the atmosphere very relaxing. We had breakfast each morning in the screened in porch - It was just perfect. I actually took photos in hopes of getting my husband to build one for me.
The location was close to the beach and town which made getting around very easy - we parked the car and walked everywear.
I look forward to a return trip.

We just returned from a Labor Day stay at this B & B in South Haven. We travel a lot across the U.S. and love staying at B & Bs, so our expectations are high, having experienced so many wonderful places simply due to relying on Trip Advisor reviews. Hence, we likewise sought out the reviews for this lovely B & B, and yes everything not only met but also exceeded our expectations. The house is immaculate. The attention to detail in making this a place of serenity is amazing. Everywhere you look you will find yet another cozy and beautiful area so inviting and filled with books. The non-fiction books are grouped thematically. We could've stayed a week and still found books to draw us into yet another alcove to read. The cucumber-minted ice water is so refreshing: my He-Man husband thinks we need to make this at home to have on hand at all times. He loved it. The staff is friendly, and the owners: Elaine and Robert are worth the visit alone. Robert helped with the selection of DVDs, reviewed the area restaurants, pointing each out on a map and marking them for us... he was incredibly accommodating. Elaine is wow! - We decided she has missed her true calling as she has such charisma and such an outrageous, stream- of - consciousness personality that she should consider becoming a t.v. personality. Her wit alone would
make her a great talk show host. ( Remember Elaine/Zaltka if u decide to go this route, we are the ones who gave u the idea...)
Furthermore, the beach is across the street. Although the beach is not large due to the private ownership on either side, we still found plenty of room to sit and enjoy the water and beach. If you're seniors as we are, I highly recommend bringing along your folding lounge chairs. We would have had a difficult time reading and napping on the sand. But, taking our chairs made it very comfortable. We were able to walk from this B & B to Clementine's for supper, which was likewise wonderful. Also, the grounds of this B & B are stunning. You will be surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. I have not mentioned all of the things we loved about the Yelton of South Haven as you will need to experience it yourself. Thanks Robert & Elaine for a perfect stay!!! Joani & Gary
