Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 16 South Haven B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Our visit at Yelton Manor was a lovely two days and we could have stayed much longer had our schedule permitted. The innkeepers are great hosts. Our bedroom was immaculate and comfortable. Breakfast was great both days. The manor is surrounded by gardens which I walked through multiple times because of how well they were done. The manor house itself is stocked with books, music and board games. And there are a number of cozy sitting areas to relax in, after a long day or during a rainy one. Best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Lily Room which had its own little sitting area and was nice and quiet.

We stayed at Yelton Manor last May for our anniversary. I cannot say enough how beautiful, comfortable and wonderful this B & B is. Elaine and Robert are the sweetest people and are so welcoming as soon as you arrive. The bed we slept in was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. And Elaine's brownies are to die for! The whole house is gorgeous, inviting, and kept in mint condition. You can tell they put hours and hours into this place each week. The day we left I had mentioned to Elaine I loved Christmas and she gave me the coolest set of salt and pepper shakers to take with us. They were not cheap, they were some designer brand. What an amazing, relaxing experience. We will be back to visit again!!!

I can not say enough great things about this B&B. I was enchanted. The food was amazing, healthy, and plentiful. The welcome was warm as was the ambiance. I wanted to crawl into every nook of that home and read a good book with a glass of good wine. I did find a great spot, poured a glass, and devoured the glorious afternoon snacks. The rose room was magnificent. Spacious, so very clean, comfortable, and oh the tub! A short walk across the street to the beach as well as short walk in the opposite direction to the main streets for shopping and dining. I wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy the company of the inn keepers. They were so inviting and engaging. Amazing experience. I can not wait to return.

This bed and breakfast is anything but typical. The furnishings are impressive, the staff are attentive, the breakfast is superb, and the afternoon snacks are great! If you're going for a walk or just relaxing at the facility, there are yummy brownies or popcorn or individual candies to munch on. The owners (Eileen and Robert) are very friendly and helpful in terms of what to do or where to eat. The gardens are well-maintained and beautiful. A perfect location from which to explore the Western side of Michigan or just relax and unwind.

South Haven is a little slice of heaven and the Yelton Manor is the perfect base camp to explore the best of what the West Michigan coastline has to offer. When getting away for a weekend or even a full blown vacation, we really enjoy a combination of “things to do” along with the ability to comfortably do nothing at all. And although South Haven and the Yelton Manor are perfect when looking for “things to do”, ie beach, shopping, festivals, eating, spa-days, bike rentals, charter boats (all available nearby with insider recommendations from the innkeepers), the Yelton Manor delivers exceptionally where other B&Bs fall short by lacking memorable character. On a lazy day or perhaps during a rainy afternoon, the Yelton Manor offers so much to explore. It’s like the West Michigan annex of the Smithsonian, the National Botanical Gardens and the Sundance Film Festival all rolled into one. Oh, and don’t forget the Library of Congress. The rooms and the common areas all have hints of culture and lifestyle from early 1900’s West Michigan. The grounds are adorned with lush gardens and landscaping that are impeccably manicured. The books found throughout the Manor and the Guest House will offer hours of interesting reading to wait out a little drizzle or even pass the time after lunch while waiting the required 1-hour before going back in the water (by the way, Lake Michigan’s silky soft beaches are only 150 ft from the Yelton’s front door with beach towels in the front hall closet). And the Innkeeper’s office has a DVD lending library that would make Steven Spielberg jealous. Seriously, they must have over 2,000 titles including new releases. We got American Hustle and Philomena – both Oscar nominated flicks from this year’s awards. Here are a few other highlights… garden-fresh sprouts & grains with a deliciously wholesome breakfast, homemade hummus, jalapeño jam and cucumber-infused water served during the afternoon reception and of course spotlessly clean accommodations. Rain or shine, the Yelton Manor is an ideal way to relax, recharge and rejuvenate.

Room Tip: All unique and interesting options, first timers should start with the Manor.

You will preview, read, research, view photos, and expect you've made the right choice.
Then you will arrive; Robert will greet you, and an extraordinary experience unfolds that you could never have imagined. The magic begins in the gardens of cultivated native species infused with the zest of their tender. Eileen creates an ambience indoors and out that feels like returning to a home where every detail has intuitively anticipated any unarticulated need. Superior cleanliness, comfortable bed, QUIET room (Lily, 2nd floor corner with view of lake), welcoming and beautiful common spaces, gourmet and healthy breakfast, concierge service,
a library of books and DVDs, round the clock snacks/sweets, gardens and outdoor spaces for reading/relaxing, and LOCATION. SoHa is walkable: the beaches, the harbor, the river, the lighthouse pier, restaurants/bars, shopping, MariTime Museum, parks, marina, the arts--all just a stroll away.
We are grateful for the spirit of Yelton Manor--Eileen and Robert--and the healing respite of their hospitality. And like us...you will plan to return before you depart!

This was our first time visit to both this small friendly town of South Haven and the Yelton Manor.
We have stayed at many B & B's and this was by far on so many levels the best! Elaine and Robert have worked very hard to make sure your visit is the best that it can be! The food is amazing! We walked into the Manor with the smell of popcorn and brownies..How great is that!! Robert helped with restaurant choices and made reservations for us. The Inn is sparkling clean
The weather was too rainy and chilly for walks along the beach so we will look forward to visiting the Yelton Manor again.. Hopefully soon
