“Beautiful Hotel, Great Location!”
Reviewed 6 December 2013 via mobile

I've stayed at this Westin a couple times now and I'm always blown away by how friendly everyone is! The front desk staff, the valet, bar tenders, house keepers and even the woman who works in the gift shop are always so polite! The rooms are beautiful, very clean, and reasonably priced for a four star hotel. Located in a safe area with tons of restaurants, shops, etc close by.

I've stayed at multiple Westins in the past (in Chicago and other cities) and they were much, much nicer than this location so I was quite disappointed.

I stayed here for 4 nights during a business trip and was not impressed at all, especially for the nightly room rate. My standard king room was quite basic and other than the excellent bed, the room was so-so. The first night I couldn't even get hot water in my shower. The room service menu is somewhat limited and very overpriced. $22 for a stir fry with chicken? Come on. Oh, and $10 for 3 pancakes (and nothing else) for breakfast. Again, give me a break.

The most disappointing part of the hotel for me was the workout room. I work out regularly and was looking forward to working out in their gym because the web site pictures make it look great. Well, half of the equipment wasn't working properly. There were 4 treadmills, and only 2 of them were fully functioning. One was stuck at a very high incline so it could not be used for running. The other didn't have an audio/tv option that was working. They had only one elliptical machine, and the tv/audio option was not working properly. It would turn on, but the volume and channel buttons would not work so you couldn't change the channels or volume. The workout room is also very small. Not what I'd expect from a Westin. I've seen much nicer workout rooms at a Holiday Inn Express and similar lower-priced hotels.

Again, for the nightly room rate, this hotel is really not worth the money. It might be a good option for location and safety, but other than that it is not worth it and it could really use some upgrades.

This hotel was reasonably clean and the bed was not terrible, but this was more like a 2/2.5 star hotel without complementary breakfast than a four-star Westin quality faculty. The furniture all need replacement - it was scratched up and dated. The hallways were not well lit and there were sketchy people in the lobby at all hours. On the plus side, the lobby was much nicer than the rooms and the staff was friendly. However, I will find a different hotel in the area next time I come back. Not worth the cost or lack of breakfast.

Arrived for a family Thanksgiving gathering and didn't know what to expect. Was pleasantly surprised! Rooms are clean. Room service is prompt and food is tasty!

Room service did leave the trays in the hall for a day. The tub could drain a little quicker. Other than that, good stay.

Stayed here while on business in Detroit. It is located quite a distance from the airport and downtown. In a good area. Front desk staff could show improvement to customers. Not too friendly nor responsive to customer requests. Waited considerable time for someone to meet me at the front desk. The rooms were just okay, bedding was average. Breakfast and dinner was very expensive and not comparable to 5 star restaurants. Choose restaurants nearby that offer a much better variety.

This was a spur of the moment hotel stay. The staff were friendly, hotel was clean, the bed was comfy, and although the place appeared to be busy it was relatively quiet on the floor that I stayed on. One thing that freaked me out at first was the elevator. When my friend and I first checked in, we wondered why the elevator wouldn't let us press 5(which was what floor our room was on) and kept going up instead of stopping at our floor. Then we realized that we had to use the hotel room key card to operate the elevator. Another thing that took some getting used to was that the hotel's main entrance and lobby is on the 3rd floor. The hotel building is shared with other businesses. When we ventured outside for dinner and came back, we forgot and somehow ended up in some other part of the building that was definitely not the hotel. It appeared to be some kind of office. It was deserted and we realized that we were not at the right place. Oops! All in all I think that this is a nice hotel, better than I expected for Southfield. I would stay here again.
