Had a great first stay at Westin Southfield back in April 2012 for a baseball game on a weekend. We booked this hotel via Priceline at a very good price and the king bed room was really nice! Our second time back we went with friends in July 2013 and the only major complaint was the drainage in the showers were not working properly but the front desk was very nice to have our rooms together! The location is relatively safe but quite a drive to downtown. The malls and restaurants in the surrounding area are also very nice!

The front lobby smells awesome, reminded me of the Venetian in Las Vegas!

One of the better hotels in Detroit so I would definitely go back. However, they do need to fix their shower drainage though!

Not up to Westin standards in other cities. Front desk service was great and prompt. Hotel bar service was slow and uninformative. Room was average and could use a refresher ( peeled ceiling, burnt lamp shades...). What was most upsetting were the dirty glasses! When brought up to light, they were full of smudges and clearly not washed. Paid with points but was charged 50$ on my credit card. Now have to deal with that issue. Not a pleasant end to my trip.

The charge you spoke of is more than likely an incidentals hold and was released upon check-out. Many times, it takes a few days for your bank to reciprocate the removal. We checked in at 1 am and we're lucky enough to nab a junior corner suite on the 4th floor. We found worn furniture, but we still had the comfy Westin bed and a very large room with a rickety low table in the middle of the room and two sitting chairs with one ottoman. The service staff were fine from the reception to house cleaning and concierge.

I came as a Starwoods guest, and they listed it as a 3 star hotel, which it is. There's a lot of room for improvement, but many things were good. The staff was always friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel has a useful business center with PCs and a printer. The workout room was minimal and the equipment needs replacing, but after all, JUST DO IT. The hotel common areas could use some sprucing up. And the signage locating the hotel from the street was barely visible. But the bed was great, as were the linens. I sent a pre-email requesting a specific type of room and a hair dryer, and the request was honored, but strangely, no one replied to my email. Anyway, I liked it, and would recommend it. Will try to stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: The ones on the west side have a better view.

This crescent shaped property is nestled between the highway and an enormous parking structure. The hotel itself is very nicely appointed. The room was clean, the beds fabulous and the bathroom very large with a great shower. The only complaint was the difficulty in locating the hotel itself. Signage is non-existent and even with GPS we had to drive through multiple parking lots, and navigate our way through multiple office complexes, to find the lobby. That though is our only complaint. I would definitely stay here again.
