Owner description: An Artisan's Approach... We are dedicated to making wines that reflect the unique character and quality of our vineyard and the vineyards of Michigan. Whether carefully sourcing grapes from top sites in the state or from our own vineyard, our winery was built on the belief that great wines begin in the vineyard. We strive to understand the needs and opportunities presented by each specific terroir. We harvest when the flavors have reached their peak and the tannins are at their softest. In the winery, we apply an artisan's approach to winemaking, using taste and instinct, not formula to build our wines. Wines are barreled in either French oak or American oak depending upon the grape and what might be best for the particular vintage at hand. The commitment to crafting wines of distinction will remain at the heart of Silver Leaf Vineyard's philosophy. As our estate property continues to mature, the winery will continue creating exceptional wines. Our hope is that you'll grow with us. For the full experience spend a few nights in our cabin situated in the vineyard and truly be one with the wine.

My now husband and I stayed at Silver Leaf in their cabin from May 24th-28th. We had our wedding ceremony on their grounds right in front of our cabin the vineyard leaves on May 26th. I am sorry for the last reviewer, but I have to disagree. Patti and Mark were the most amazing hosts we have ever had. The wedding went off without a hitch and the 1 1/2 hours after of wine tasting and apps were awesome. Our guests loved the wine and the vineyard, and we loved Patti and Mark and their two dogs. Mike, my husband, would play with Abby when he saw her.

Also, the cabin is amazing! It is beautiful with a big size bedroom, small bathroom and a little sun room in the back. The windows come in and are attached to hanging hooks and the porch is the best place to sit back and have a glass of wine. We are planning to go back and stay there in Sept for the Harvest Stompede because of the the hospitality of Mark and Patti and the good taste of their wine. I would recommend stopping by on a wine tour in the area, and if you can staying at the cabin for a night or two. It is well worth it!

We have been so busy doing weddings that we thought we would try to get away for a couple of days and rent a cottage up north with our two bearded collies, Winchester and Angel Annabelle Rose. We found a place that sounded really nice, a private secluded cottage in a vineyard on Suttons Bay that excepted dogs, wow, What could be nicer, right? (WRONG). After driving about five hours to our destination, our hosts Patti and Mark Carlson, had left the key in the cottage with a note to call them when we got there and they would be right over. After leaving a couple of messages, we didn't hear back, which was no big deal. The cottage was very cute. We layed out a blanket and sat outside just enjoying being away for a couple of days. We were greeted by a big friendly black dog. Seemed nice enough. Well about one hour later someone pulls up, and says are you staying here. We said yes and introduced ourselves. The was one of the host's (Patti). The very first words out of her mouth were, "ARE THESE THE DOGS", I thought they were little and not so shaggy. Clearly she was not happy and she was not very nice. I tried to engage in conversation with her and her answers we either yes, no, or no response. She asked if we could leave the dogs outside during our stay. We were horrified. What were we going to do now. Five hours away from home with our two dogs and feeling very unwelcome. I got the yellow pages out and called every rental and no one excepted dogs. We finally lucked out and found a great a cottage in Maple City called Paul's Paradise. This cottage was great. The owner couldn't have been nicer, the location was great, a few yards from Little Traverse Lake, with it's own row boat, and kayaks. What a find, We will be going back next year. But I would never recommend Silver Leaf to anyone. This was a terrible experience. That could have ended in disaster.

This adorable vineyard is off the beaten path, but such a great find! It was a little difficult to find the first time, but so worth it! The dirt road winds up a hill and you're suddenly amongst the vines. They have a super cute little cabin available to rent that overlooks the vineyards and cherry trees. Their winery dogs will come greet you, but don't worry, they are very friendly! The winery was once a horse stable and the owner, who usually is working in the tasting room, converted everything and built it by hand. It's a family-owned winery and everything is done the old school way, by hand. You won't find that at many vineyards anymore! Make sure you order a glass of wine and sit out on their deck. They are known for their Chafia Cherry wine and Eve (apple-fortified wine), but the Pinot Gris is one of my favorites. I recommend spending at least an hour at Silver Leaf to sample wines, chat with the owners and enjoy a glass out on their deck.
