“Great Family Summer Attraction”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2012

If you've spent the day at the beach and are looking for some evening fun during the summer, be sure to check out the TC Beach Bums at Wuerfel Park -- their season runs essentially from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Seating is available as typical chair back seating (with cup holders), unique 4-person table tops, 20-person suites (no kids allowed), and seating along a grass berm in the outfield.

A great paved walkway travels around the park and gives the opportunity for exercise when your legs get stiff. There is a small playground for kids out in right field. The concourse this past summer held a spin-the-wheel game where you could win a variety of prizes (I think you could get a couple of spins for $5)

Food options are somewhat typical for a ballpark. Concessions are offered on both sides of the park. My personal favorite is the burger offered out at the grill stations at the end of the covered concourse. New this past season was Philly Steak Sandwiches and Nachos. You cannot bring in your own food or drink.

Some seating tips include sitting on the third base side if you are seeking shade during a hot sunny day. The full side is usually in the shade by 7:30 PM. If you relish the sun, head to the first base side. If your kids are frightened by mascots, avoid sitting on the aisles of sections 103/104 and 109/110 as the mascots use that stairway regularly to access the field.

There are fireworks on occasional Friday nights. Players are accessible before the game for autographs outside of their clubhouse as well as in front of sections 102 and 103. Be courteous though as they are getting into game mode. After the game the same option is available. Most players are more than happy to sign programs, balls, bats, etc. It is important to have your own pen though!

The gift store offers a complete selection of souvenirs including my personal favorite sweatshirt blanket.

Tickets are usually available as a walk-up but on more popular nights (their Veteran's appreciation night for example) you might want to order tickets early.

“MY ADVENTURE AT WUERFEL PARK”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2011

When I visited Wuerfel Park, I loved it. Wuerfel Park is in located in Blair Township, MI and is home to the Traverse City Beach Bums. When you arrive, excluding the towering stadium lights, you would NEVER tell it was a baseball park, because the exterior looks like beach condos. The interior is nice, the press box/suites all resemble a beach house, it's a single section stadium(no upper deck seating) with a white fence and a lawn where fans can see the game. the concession stands are just screened windows, there's a great gift shop and of course bathrooms. If you are sensitive to fireworks, cover your ears, because halfway through the national anthem, they will set them off, I was not ready and expecting that. The seats are plastic but comfortable, the food is delicious, you get a really great view, they have great games for kids, and the PA Announcer/on field emcee makes the game fun, plus during every inning, they will play a silly sound or phrase over the speakers, like for instance; Tom Kenny(voice) says "BUBBLES" from Spongebob Squarepants, or "HAHA" and others. there really isn't any cons except for the fact that if it rains, you'll get really wet. All in all, the park is fantastic and one of a kind. So why not see a beach bums game.
