“Good price and location. Clean and nice employees.”
Reviewed 7 September 2009

My wife and I just stayed here for three nights during the Labor Day weekend. We wanted cheap so we got a non-bayview room (faces the road). Unfortunately it was a smoking room, too. However, due to the pleasant weather we just opened the window and the room was quite tolerable. The room itself was clean as well as the bathroom. Maid service did a fine job. The hotel could probably use an updating but it wasn't terrible. The continental breakfast was good, too. There were a couple of cereals, decent pastries, hard boilded eggs, waffle machine, a variety of juices, coffee, and english muffins. Just one thing, they need to buy a new toaster!! It works, but slooooow...

I didn't get a chance to check out the pool but it looked ok as I walked by. The bayview rooms had nice balconies and a ground level room would be really handy to walk right out to the beach. They have a bar and grill that I didn't get a chance to visit but it seemed well visited.

The location is excellent. It is technically outside the city limits (as are most of the resorts/hotels on the East Bay) but there are plenty of places to eat and it is just a few minutes from downtown.

There were no issues whatsoever during our stay. I can highly recommend this hotel!

We went there on Memorial Day weekend, and stayed in one of the Whirpool rooms. First the good things about this place:
Whirpool room was good. Good cable, working, well structured whirlpool with lots of mirrors, heating and airconditioning was good. The bathrooms were clean and well equipped. Beds were cosy and comfortable. Good lighting in the room. Overall, we liked the room. The resort serves free continental breakfast and coffee-cookies in the evening. Liked that. Good beach and paragliding opportunity right in the backyard. Convenient. Managers were kind and helpful and quite considerate of our concerns. Nice location. Do visit the Don's Diner which is quite close for their excellent shakes.

Now the not-so-good things:
Indoor swimming pool wasnt very attractive. Seemed dingy. But with whirlpool in the room, we didnt need it and didnt use it. We first had reserved a 2nd floor Whirpool suite, but the balcony there was too tiny for 2 of us to sit comfortably. The living room had worn out curtains and old-looking couch. Had a dingy look to it. So we decided to move to the first floor whirpool room and liked it. The managers helped in this transition, without a fuss.
Lots of mosquitoes outside the hotel, but thats the case everywhere in Traverse City. So cant really make use of the balcony. Also, the WiFi was very slow.

Overall, a nice place to live for a couple of days.

We enjoyed our stay here with and excellent view of the Grand Traverse Bay and the room layout and appointments where wonderful. The staff was knowledgeable and courteous. The grounds and beach where well manicured and carefully attended. We had a spa room on the ground level, with a fireplace and direct access the the beach. We have stayed at several hotels in the area. This remains our favorite. Also it's a good value considering the amenities and location.

We travel to T.C. several times a year to get away, and have stayed in many hotels there.Once we found Parkshore, we never stayed anywhere else! Great service ,clean rooms, comfortable beds, excellent lounge with happy hour, and dj on weekends! If you drink, you don't have to worry about driving. We watched the fireplace burning and through the lounge windows, a blizzard coming off the lake, and it was so cozy to know you didn't have to drive anywhere. I definately would recommend everybody to stay there., And this is coming form someone who is very picky about hotels.

My girlfriend and I just got back from a two night stay at Parkshore. We absolutely loved the hotel. The staff was friendly and efficient. The jacuzzi fireplace suite on the 4th floor was wonderful. It was spacious, clean, quiet, and had a great balcony view over the bay. The jacuzzi was large and confortable (not a bathtub,) and the fireplace was a nice addition too. The fact that the manager takes the time to read these reviews helped us decide on this place to begin with, and we weren't disappointed. We were very pleased with the value of the room this time of year, as we got much more for our money than other hotels we've stayed in closer to home (Lansing area.) We will definately be back to stay at this hotel.

In May 2008, My wife and I stayed five days at the Parkshore. We enjoyed it thoroughly. The Parkshore is located right on Grand Traverse Bay, and our room had an incredible view of the bay, framed by the beautifully maintained golden sand private beach below and the tree-lined shore (beyond the other hotels) on either side. The room decor is a touch nicer than most, with fairly typical carpet, walls, and furniture, but slightly nicer art and fixtures. The couch in our bay-view king room was very nice, and the room had adequate, flexible lighting and conveniently accessible electrical outlets.

The higher-end first floor beachside rooms have a small patio perfect for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The upper floor balconies are small, but nice for stepping out to watch the sunset or feel the breeze. During our stay, the outdoor daytime temperature ranged from 88 to 42. This made the small, rare-for-the-area indoor pool, sparkling clean and at a perfect temperature, a true treasure.

The front desk staff was courteous and friendly, the bar/restaurant staff was professional yet fun, and the cleaning staff was outstanding. We extended our original three-day stay twice, and the staff did a fine job jugging arrangements to minimize complications. The staff was also very responsive to our requests for extra towels and a light bulb, and fixed a meal issue promptly and with great courtesy.

We did run into some challenges:

1. Our stay inadvertently coincided with the annual four-day hatching of a small black gnat-like insect that clouds shoreline windows by the millions. When we arrived, our balcony screen door was broken, so we called for repair. Maintenance was unavailable, so the receptionist unsuccessfully tried to fix it herself. However, she was prompt, attentive, and did get maintenance there later that day to fix it correctly.

2. A group of guests had a small party on their patio below our room. The management did a fine job balancing courtesy to the other guests with the rights of the party group, but the beach acoustics made this a significant inconvenience.

3. We had an 18-hour stretch when the single building elevator was out of service without a note explaining cause or estimated repair time. My wife and I were staying on the top floor, and the several stair trips got old fast..

4. We found minor irregularities on our bill. We had bought meals and a couple of bottles of wine, and we extended our original three-day stay to four days, and then to five days, so there was ample opportunity for error. When we reviewed the bill with the front desk manager, the errors were acknowledged promptly (but no apology), and three days later our credit card was credited for the erroneous charges

I think the 3-star Parkshore has a great strategy. The pricing is competitive with the 2-star "value" hotels in the area, yet offers amenities usually found only at more expensive lodging. For just a few dollars more than the concrete-walled, no-frills lodgings down the road, the Parkshore offers a a vacation atmosphere with private beach, beautiful views, and good food and drink. It is truly a resort, yet at prices almost everyone can afford.

I suspect these low prices are achieved by supplementing an experienced core management staff with polite and friendly but inexperienced, lower-cost staff (except housekeeping, which is top-notch.) This approach permits value-like pricing in a facility that would otherwise charge much more. The down-side of this approach is expect occasional inexperience-caused errors. If you demand top-notch service at all times, you may prefer somewhere else. Otherwise, bring a little patience and compassion, and enjoy the Parkshore! We love the balance of amenities and low price, and we hope to stay there again - soon and often!
