Our family went to the museum 2yr old and 5 yr old the price is expensive considering how much there is to do. Our boys had a great time, their favorite thing was the river scene on the floor they tried to catch the fish. The water table was fun and so was the house. Would be a great to go and come back that day but there is not enough stufff to do to be there all day! I think that it should be cheaper if not free for adults because $18 for all of us to go was not worth it! The smile on the kids faces was worth it though!

Our children are young (1 & 3) so they really aren't much into the "science" thing yet, but we thought this would be a good place to take them to play as it was too cold to hit any of the playscapes or the beach. We spent about 2 hours there, my husband thought it was a bit pricey ($6 each, under 2 free) for what was there. My kids loved going up into the lighthouse and coloring (which they could do at home). But I think they had fun playing in a new place and it let them get some energy out before our 3 hour ride home.

There's lots of fun stuff to do for a smaller children's museum. We were pleasantly surprised that Traverse City even had a hands-on museum. The girls and I played at the water table for a long time. Our youngest loved playing dress-up in the lighthouse. Close to town and free parking made it easy to get there. Both girls want to go back the next time we're in TC.

A good attempt to have a scientific type of experience for the kids. the previous review of the WET water cycle is bunk. the kids dont get wet and the water cycle experience is inpenetrable to a child, it is not very well doen, being a big hampster tube with a slide and some thunder and rain type decorations. the water table is a flowing water table about ten feet long that the kids can put little walls in to redirect the flow and play with tiny little plastic toys.
way over priced gift shop, but only childrens type place there is in Traverse City so your stuck.

Visiting this hands-on museum with my family is such fun! Where else can you find a life-sized, WET!, and accurate representation of the water cycle through all of its phases? At the water table, kids don vinyl aprons and redirect the "river's" flow. The water cycle re-enactment takes up a good quarter of the museum, with a sun to evaporate the kids up a ladder into a steamy cloud, and out as precipitation down a curly blue slide. Many other cool things get the kids' attention, but if yours are like mine they'll go back again and again to the water cycle demo--and recall with accuracy and enthusiasm all the steps a full year after visiting! As a science teacher who took a year to work with Groundwater Education in Michigan, and the mother of four, I give the Great Lakes Children's Museum an A+!
