The State Theater is an enchanting movie theater in downtown Traverse City. I'm old enough to remember velvet chairs and a huge screen with velvet drapes that slowly raise up when the movie begins. There is an audible gasp when one enters this theater. First of all, the ceiling is a rendition of a night sky, complete with constellations. The walls are covered in rich fabrics and subdued lighting, reminiscent of old-time theaters. I like that there are volunteers at the box office and the candy counter, keeping costs down while providing entertainment for all of us. Such a beautiful experience!
