We've been coming to Grand Beach for a good 10 years, we love the first floor beach front walkout room. It's heaven! The rooms are very pretty and very clean. Last time we stayed there our room only had a shower stall but 3 years later our room had a bathtub again! Convenient for families with little ones (as i told front desk 3 years ago)!!! The beach is maintained beautifully with lots of chairs & chaises. We rented a boat and that's always a fun time! Staff is great, super helpful. Grounds are well kept. We love the free breakfast room with the neat pancake machine. Hotel is right across the road from Pirates Cove, a super cool activity park with go-karts, zip lines & water slides. Great time for kids & parents alike! Book early in the year for best available rooms, beach front is hard to get! I think even first floor courtyard view isn't a bad room. Close to lots of restaurants, great location! And wifi available!

Room Tip: book early for beach front rooms. We love the first floor beach front for super easy beach access.

Thank you for being a loyal guest to the Grand Beach Resort for 10 years! Your feedback is very important to us as feedback is a gift. We are absolutely thrilled that you enjoy our first floor rooms, including the ability to walk out to the sand, sit on your patio, or just enjoy the sights and sounds in this breath-taking place. For this reason, the rooms with a beach views book very quickly, so booking early is a must! When you return, a warm welcome, and these beautiful rooms will be ready for you and we eagerly look forward to your return.

We stayed at the Grand Beach with our 2 grand daughters , I thought the hotel was pretty nice. Really nice beach , breakfast was busy too busy for us , overall the hotel was worth while. My problem is we booked a beach side room with a balcony on Expidia , when we arrived we got a room facing the parking lot. We thought just must be a mistake , went to the front desk and was told if you book a room though Expidia it is a non beach room no matter what . If you do not book a room with the hotel directly you get a parking lot view. This would have been nice to know since I didn't book a beach front hotel to look at my car in a parking lot. I think the Grand Beach should let you know with a CALL or a POSTING , I would have paid a little extra to sit out and watch the waves and sunset !!! They told me they make no money on Expidia bookings , why have them and upset people ???

Thank you for taking a moment to tell us of your recent stay at the Grand Beach Resort. Since our breakfast area is often busy we recently added a quick conveyor cooker to speed up the process for fresh pancakes in the morning. We encourage our guests to book directly with the hotel to ensure that we can give you the exact room type and placement you wish to enjoy while stay with us. Please contact me at 231-938-4455 and I will be happy to make a reservation with a beach view for you next year.

We were at the end of our vacation, having travelled to the Upper Peninsula, then down the north western side of MI, where we stayed in Charlevoix & then finally Traverse City. Originally booked at another area hotel, we were able to cancel that reservation & stayed at this wonderful place! We felt so welcomed by the staff: the manager (Tony Pappas, I believe) was awesome-shook our hands, told us to personally ask him if we needed anything & got us into our room straight away! We were able to have early check-in, which allowed us to have way more beach time! Katelyn, the desk clerk we initially encountered was very nice & professional. In general, all of the staff were extremely friendly & seemed to enjoy what they do/interacting with guests-this is the way it should be when dealing with the public. The private beach was lovely-clear water (shallow, too), soft sand beneath your feet, plenty of lounge chairs or adirondack chairs, large beach umbrellas, cabanas. The only thing the hotel is missing is a bar! Rentals available for pontoon boats, speed boats, wave runners, kayaks, paddle boards & water trampoline, but you must bear in mind that all of these activities cost quite a bit. I suggest bringing a frisbee or football to toss around or a raft/floatie of some sort & just relax in the calm water. Room was nicely decorated, with, of course, beach themed decor (which I love)-had a very beach cottage-esq feel & was calming. Nice storage cabinet/entertainment armoire. Beds very comfortable & nice bath/shower, with oversized shower head. The room also had a small fridge & microwave. My only regret is that we were could not have stayed longer. We will definitely return & will recommend the Grand Beach Resort to everyone ( there is also a sister resort, called the Sugar Beach Resort, which I'm sure is just as lovely)!

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary in June. Our room was on the 1st floor parking lot side (we knew this ahead of time). The room was really nice and we paid extra for a jacuzzi room. The beach was beautiful. The breakfast room was packed the first morning because it was storming outside and everyone was trying to figure out what to do with the day, but they had a pretty decent selection of bagels, muffins, waffles, cereal, juice, etc. Nice that it was included. Location is convenient, but the road is so busy. (No left turns out of the parking lot) We enjoyed our stay but it was pretty pricy so we probably won't return. I would recommend the hotel though. Every staff member that we encountered throughout the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful.

Stayed June 27 and 28th. First thing I saw when stepping out on the balcony was finger and toenail clippings (lots of them) on the floor, chairs and table!!!!!! Disgusting.!! Local channels on TV (satellite not working). We have stayed at this motel (it is not a resort) since they opened, It has gsteadily gone downhill! Tvs are the originals, Bedspreads and bedding are awful. Mattress pad seemed to be made out of rubber- temperatures were in the high 80's leaving you wet and uncomfortable. Air conditioners are so loud it is impossible to sleep with them on so you have to have sliding door open to inhale cigarette smoke and loud conversations from guest below until 3 am. Rooms are 4.5 times higher in summer for the same room.

We stayed at the Grand Beach in June and enjoyed it very much. Several reviewers have commented that the place could use some sprucing up, and that is true, but the problems seem very minor to us. We got a good rate by booking a couple of months in advance and had a beach-side room. Although there were many families with children of all ages staying at the hotel, there was no noise on our floor at night. The beach is lovely and well-cared for, and the employees very friendly. If there was a downside for us, it was that the property's location on the far east end of Traverse City meant that we had to navigate the traffic on the main road to get to and from downtown and the Sleeping Bear Dunes area. But all in all--a great stay.

Some things to note:
-The property is located on a decent amount of sugar sand beach that is pretty well maintained
-Get a lake facing room, it is worth it
-On that note, the rooms don't face the west. You have to go onto the beach for a good sunset view
-Noisy and smoky neighbors are hard to avoid
-There was a hairball in our shower until I plucked it out (this was after a cleaning rotation)
-Floors aren't vacuumed, what appeared to be dog hair was all over our carpet
-Breakfast room is 100 degrees and packed
-Bottle openers are offered at the front desk
-Close to various activities and dining, but plan on driving because 31 is very busy
-Our room came with a DVD player and mini fridge which was a nice perk
-Beds have two thin pillows each and sheets that popped off often

Essentially this hotel could use a little facelift, the location is pretty good for spending the whole day on the beach, but the rooms are just a little bit grimy.
