They have a great selection of media as well as a beautiful view overlooking the water. They also have a great ongoing sale of used books on the main floor.

It's worth going in, just to see what a public library can be like, in terms of architecture and a welcoming, relaxing feel. Add to that a stunning view over Boardman Lake and you could easily spend the day here (as quite a few homeless people do.)

They have separate areas for children and teenagers. There is something for everyone, including a toddlers' story time called Wigglers. There are also evening lectures.

In its efforts to be welcoming, the staff focus on being helpful resources, but I sometimes wish that they would ask chatterers to keep their voices down. It can be hard to concentrate on a piece of writing if there is a group of students at the next table collaborating on a project. But overall I'm glad that this facility is there for them, and that they think of a public library as a good place to hang out.

The library is a gem for Traverse City. Quiet, efficient and generally well stocked. The staff are always helpful and the ambiance is perfect for quiet reading or just reflecting on something you have read, or plan to read.
