We return here every summer when our children and grandchildren visit. I love the food and white cloth tablecloths. Local wine flights are fun. I always order the morel chanterelle bisque. This time my husband ordered the deep fried Sockeye and Halibut with frites. Fresh oysters and cheese and sausage plate were also delicious. The crab cake and Angus burger with dill chips was amazing. The grounds are lovely for family photos.

This place was excellent. We had the whitefish and then the almond cake for dessert. We loved the cherry and lemon sauce with the almond cake, and also the coconut ganache. I wouldn't bother ordering lobster tail here...go with the local food. The staff is very welcoming. I would come back if in the area again.

We wanted to find a very special location and a restaurant for a 60th birthday party. We wanted the evening to be spectacular in every way. We had reservations at another restaurant, but happened to stop by during the day at the boathouse. We were met by the owner who was very accommodating as it was only three hours prior to our dinner time. We chose the Boathouse based on it's menu selections and the view.

When we arrived, we were seated outside overlooking the marina. There were four of us. The experience began with an attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Our waitress was Kathleen, who was knowledgeable and professional. She let us enjoy each course without rushing us, and our water or wine glasses were never empty. Our experience started with pre-dinner cocktails which included a cucumber martini which was called a cucumber rain. This martini was a cucumber martini infused with basil, and simple syrup. It was a great start to a wonderful dinner.

For our appetizers we ordered shrimp cocktail, which was a standard cocktail, but the shrimp were cooked to perfection. We had the kobe carpaccio which was like velvet on our tongues. It had creme fraiche, black garlic paste and baby arugula, which went together perfectly. We also had the scallop appetizer which were large sea scallops on a bed of creamy bacon, spinach and mushrooms. We then had cotuit bay oysters which were meaty and briny.

We dont normally eat like this, this was definitely a very special birthday. Our next course consisted of a morel bisque which contained whole morels of all sizes. The soup was creamy, and earthy. We also had the lobster bisque which was the perfect blend of lobster, shrimp, cream and tomato. Both soups were amazing.

Salads were next. We had the wedge while good, it did not compare to the strawberry brie salad. Strawberry brie salad had creamy brie, fresh strawberries, a sweet balsamic dressing with a wonderful surprise of a toffee crunch. Yummy.

With our dinner, Kathleen recommended "the Lateral" wine with was a blend from California of merlot and cab franc. It was a perfect pairing.

There was no hesitation with our choice of kobe fillets for dinner. We had both standard and au poivre, both of them were exceptional. With our kobe we added on 16 oz lobster tails. The au poivre fillets were encrusted in peppercorn with a cremed morel sauce. The standard came with a sauce which was fruity, earthy and amazing. The lobster tails were 16 oz and were presented above the tail ready to enjoy. They were firm, buttery and melted in our mouth.

As you can imagine, we were pretty full after such a wonderful meal and ordered our dessert to go. The dessert included a flour less chocolate cake, almond cake, and cheesecake. We enjoyed them much later in the comfort of our home, in our pajama's at about midnight.

Overall, this was a gastronomical experience from beginning to end. We highly recommend the boathouse in traverse city. Between the four of us, we enjoy fine dinning. The boathouse was one of the best dining experiences we have had collectively. As with any of amazing experience you get what you pay for.

Yes, it is pricey but perhaps worth it on special occasions. We had a great view overlooking the water and a very attentive server so that helps as well. All of our food was great from the oysters to the tempura asparagus and the salad "specials" were also amazing.
