My wife and I recently dined at Pepenero. What a great find! This is an authentic as Italian gets! We started with an eggplant appetizer stuffed with Machado cheese and anchovies that was outstanding. This was followed by a pasta dish composed of a wild mushroom agnolotti (ravioli) served with a beef sirloin meat ragu and Romano cheese. Finally, for our entrée we both had the Branzino that is a Mediterranean Sea Bass served in a parchment paper with capers, potatoes and sweet red peppers. What a great dish!. Finally, for dessert we tried the tiramisu and a cannolo since these are the quintessential Italian desserts. These were excellent.
Our server, Joe, was superb. He was extremely knowledgeable about the food, wine list and very efficient. All and all, Pepenero is an excellent restaurant with great food and service at a very fair price. If you are in the Traverse City area give this place a try!
