“A secret gem”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Lovely drive. Scenic lighthouse. Quiet beauty. Found a few Petoskey stones while walking the shore. Petoskey stones are fossilized coral and are michigans state gemstone, I believe. The drive up to the lighthouse has antique stops and wineries to visit. Lake was totally frozen when we were here in April 2014. Now that was quite a sight to see !

“man made rock towers at Mission Point Light House”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

easy beach access, picnic tables, the light house with a small gift shop and the man-made rock towers in the water that were made last year when the water level was so low in the lake that people walked on sand and piled rocks on top of each other to form little rock towers. water still low enough that you can now wade out to the rock towers and add to them.

“Nice Place”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We took a 30 minute break from visiting some of the vineyards on Mission Point to visit the lighthouse. Nice place and we're glad we took the time to visit. Looked around the main floor (free) and also walked by the log cabin. The cairn's built just off the shallow beach were interesting too.

“The fun is the getting there”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

The light house is small and lovely. Free to see the first floor (not that there's much to see), a couple of bucks to ascend to the lighthouse. The beach is small, an ever changing landscape. The summer of 2014 the water came up close to the lighthouse (although very shallow), several years ago the water went out several hundred yards and you traversed dry sandy conditions to get to the end of the point. But the best part of the visit is the beautiful drive to get there. Get off the main drag of Center Road and take the roads that run along the sides of the peninsula for a lovely look at the bays. It would be especially beautiful in the fall.

“A nearly hidden gem on a dead end road.”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

The Mission Point Lighthouse is at the north end of the narrow peninsula that divides Grand Travis Bay into west and east arms. A 17 mile highway takes you to the wooded area where the lighthouse stands. It is very picturesque and well worth the drive.
