We stayed at the Park Place in June of 2010. Great location in the heart of downtown. About 1 - 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. It was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. Also, someone commented on not being able to control the thermostat in the room. Our room had a thermostat and we were able to keep the room nice and cool (It was in the 80's that weekend).

I would definately stay here again!!

I had my wedding in the Traverse City area in Sept 2009. We chose the Park Place Hotel for both the bridal party and all the out of town guests primarily because of its great central location. In Traverse City there are almost no hotels which are within walking distance of the city centre so our choices were limited and I was concerned by bad reviews on this site. I shouldn't have been. Yes, the Park Place is an older hotel and may not have 5 stars but the staff were excellent and so accomodating, the rooms were clean and comfortable (if not completely modern) and the views of the city were fantastic.

This isn't the hotel for you if you are looking for a top end luxury experience, but if you are looking for a hotel with an unrivaled location which is family friendly where the staff will be on hand to help, I can highly recommend the Park Place.

My brother and sister-in-law had their wedding at the Park Place Hotel in the middle of November 2009. Everything in connection with the wedding took place right at the hotel. The rehearsal dinner was at Minerva's, the wedding ceremony was in one of the conference rooms (decorated with an arch, flowers, etc.), and the reception was on the top floor in a beautiful large room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the entire city and the West Arm of the Grand Traverse Bay. It was a wonderful weekend with great weather (around 60 degrees - pretty good for mid-November in Traverse City!).

Anyway, the hotel itself is really nice. My brother and his bride stayed in one of the suites on the 9th floor overlooking the bay, which was beautiful. The room my boyfriend and I stayed in on the 4th floor was also very nice. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and everything was quiet. The bathroom was nice. No problems with anything. (I had been a little leery based on several other reviews of this hotel, but I was very surprised to find that everything was fantastic.)

Several people who have reviewed the Park Place mentioned poor service at the front desk. Honestly, we did not experience that at all. (Maybe it was because we were in the wedding party?) The only real low point at the hotel was Minerva's. The rehearsal dinner was there, and all 15 or so of us ate in a private room off the main dining area of the hotel. The service was pretty lousy. It appeared that we only had one or two servers, and they did not come by nearly often enough to replenish drinks, make sure everything was okay, etc. Despite the lousy service at Minerva's, I must say that the food was delicious. I would not mind eating at Minerva's again if I were part of a small group.

One thing I thought was rather strange was that the hotel is attached to a health club, so when you go to the pool, it's almost as if you're going to a YMCA or something - where you have to walk through a locker room to get there. Not a big deal or anything, but I just thought it was strange.

Parking was not an issue for us at all, but that might be because we arrived at the hotel around 3:30 in the afternoon and there was plenty of parking still available at that time. The location, as many others have said, is excellent. You can easily walk to anything in downtown Traverse City from the hotel.

All in all, I loved this hotel and would really like the opportunity to stay there again. We had a really good experience at the wedding. Hopefully their rates in the summer months are not too high!

Parking lot was full, people backing down rows of cars searching for a place to park, nothing is marked regarding alternative parking locations. Front desk clerks do not give directions regarding location of alternative parking structure, nor is it marked by signs. Room is decorated in dark, drab brown. Towels, blankets, sheets are threadbare. Heat cannot be controlled, room was extremely hot. We asked for extended checkout, maid was pounding on the door asking when we are leaving. Pillows are of very poor quality, no support. Mattress is slanted. Check out clerk did not ask if we enjoyed our stay . We asked for directions to a church, expecting a local map - were given a hasy verbal description of very confusing directions with a curt dismissal.

The Park Place Hotel always takes every concern by our guests very strongly. While it is true that the hotel parking lot was full with hotel and wedding guests, along with restaurant patrons, complimentary parking is available when our lot is full directly across the street. We are sorry about the miscommunication about the directions to the parking and church.

In regards to the other conerns, bed and bath linens are inspected every day and replaced annually or as needed. The mattresses are new and inspection of the room in question revealed it to be in excellent condition.

The Park Place Hotel has future plans for new TVs, upgraded bathrooms and refinished furnishings. It is our comittment to continue to upgrade and enhance our services.

I talked my friend into staying here after the opera. Lower end sheets, scratchy towels, and a climate control system that we could not control added to the disappointment after having to park across the street in a parking structure. This defeated the purpose of staying right in town since we had to transport our luggage and the directions to the structure were unclear as were the directions to the church we asked about. The wedding guests seemed to have precedence over house guests. Any Hamilton Inn I have stayed in has been far superior and more concern about comfort was given. The room was almost a solid brown in its color scheme---glum! It was quiet, but the shower was inconsistent when other plumbing was in use.The tv is seriously outdated also! Bathroom fixtures are old and scratched up. The wooden furniture is worn and in need of refinishing. If I sound crabby, it is because I did not get a good night's sleep in the uncomfortable bed in the overheated room, which overshadows the glorious afternoon we spent at the Met simulcast.

We stayed here for their Thanksgiving special and were so glad we did! We got exactly what we wanted, a table with the Lions game on nearby, a buffet of ham, turkey, roast beef, and tons of desserts, all the traditional festive fare, all you can eat, plus swam in pool, sat in hot tub, used workout equipment, steam room, ate at Minerva's and got elaborate breakfasts in bed with superfast room service. Rooms were great; very comfortable beds, lots of pillows, cable tv and movies, table and chairs, view of the Bay from the tower on two sides, super quiet, super clean and lovely decor with flowers and a coffee bar and refrigerator provided. Plus it's in central downtown, so we took in a show a block away at the State Theater, browsed the Horizon Bookstore where the Sunshine Cafe entertains nightly, watched the two story high Xmas tree lighting ceremony, with Santa's visit, and had just the BEST TIME! I bought a charming little red leather watch at the gift shop with my initials on it, too. My son, his friend, and our guests all had a great time there. We even went bowling and everybody got more than 100 points! It's near the City Opera House and Interlochen's holiday programs, and the symphony and Old Towne Playhouse musicals and plays, so we had plenty of choices!

Park Place has the perfect location - right downtown TC; walking distance to all the great restaurants, shopping and of course the beautiful Bay. For those amenities you pay a premium price. Is it worth it? Probably...however, the hotel itself needs to do some major renovating. We stayed in a top level room with a fabulous view - thought it would be worth paying a little extra. The view was great except two of the main windows must have had broken seals because there was condensation in them which certainly obstructed the full view. The room was a disappointment. The bed was hard, uncomfortable and the had the lumpiest pillows I've ever seen. The bathroom was small, cold (with a heat lamp that was nothing more than a regular light bulb), with cracked marble sink. It looked as if the small tub had been "resurfaced" and was pealing. The ceiling tiles in the were stained and gapping. The towels were thin and worn. The bathroom window had been covered with opaque film of some kind and was full of wrinkles - just tacky looking.
The best part of our stay was the accessibility to downtown without having to drive and park. And we enjoyed "The Top of the Park" bar with the piano player. Great drinks, cozy atmosphere and friendly service.
Was not at all impressed with the front desk hospitality- both when I called to make the original reservation or upon checking in and out. The staff was not dressed very professionally either. Just expect a little more when you stay and pay for what projects itself to be a classy place. They could and should do better. Would think twice about staying there again.
