This Marriott hotel has recently been renovated. The rooms are clean and updated. The desk clerk was nice enough to give me a room far away from the elevators, which he told me are very loud. Management must have listen to the voice of the customer because now they are in the process of renovating the elevators.

From my experience, the only minus for this hotel is that they only offer free wifi on the first floor. If you want wifi in your room you have to pay an additional fee. I believe it was $12.... I'm not kidding!

Room Tip: Stay away from the elevators until they install the new ones

Hello Gloria, and thank you for visiting us here in Troy and for taking your time to post about your visit. We are very sorry that you were disappointed in the Marriott wifi policy. You are correct that there is a charge for in-room service, however this is comped for certain Marriott Rewards guests. perhaps if you are a frequent Marriott rewards guest, it would make sense for you to become a rewards member and utilize that benefit along with many others. Again, we are sorry for that disappointment, however we're otherwise happy to hear that your visit was a success. Thank you again for visiting.

Honestly the employees were friendly and helpful. Concierge lounge was nice. Just the rooms and hallways are in need of renovation. My room reminded me of an older courtyard. The rooms was clean but just worn a little too much for a Marriott.

This Marriott is in a great location for conducting business, fine & casual dining, and shopping.

Upon arrival, we requested a room with a refrigerator. Although there was not a room available with one already in it, they brought one to the room we booked. It actually had some old food in the freezer section that smelled when we opened the door, but after we told them about it, they quickly traded it out for another one. Whew!

When we need to visit this section of Detroit, this is our go-to hotel.

Hello and thank you so very much for choosing to stay with us on your recent visit. We appreciate you taking the time to post and are very happy to see the glowing five stars. Please know that we are terribly sorry, once again, for the issues with your initial fridge/freezer. Obviously it should have been properly cleaned before being reissued to another guest. We're terribly sorry for that inconvenience. Once again, thank you! And we are thrilled to hear that you'll be staying with us again on your next visit. We'll look forward to that stay! Safe travels.

I always pass this particular Marriott when in the area but have not had a chance to stay here until now.

While it is an older Marriott, it is better maintained and generally nicer than some of the other suburban Marriott hotels in the metro Detroit area. The location is superb for those needing to be on the northern and east sides of metro Detroit, too.

Upon arrival, my platinum elite status was recognized but I was not greeted by name (Mr. So and So). I also was not offered any assistance with my luggage, though there was not a bellman on duty. There were, however, two or three semi-uniformed parking attendants milling about by the main door. I am assuming these workers are contracted through a third-party parking company as they showed zero interest in helping guests.

The lobby is very bland and lacks an atmosphere. I was never told by the hotel restaurant by the front desk, which was a missed opportunity for the hotel as I ended up going off-site for dinner. I also did not see any coffee or fruit-flavored water that most Marriott hotels offer in the lobby.

The pool and fitness room (actually two fitness rooms), located on the second floor, is one of the better ones I have seen with more than enough machines for a busy morning. The pool and hot tub were also quite enticing (if only I had brought a swimsuit!). It would be great to see a sauna, as there is space for one.

As for the rooms and public spaces, they are exceptionally clean even by Marriott standards. Some of the décor is dated, though. Other parts — for example, the bright red, modern lamp in the room — did not go with the classic style of the rooms.

Speaking of the rooms, it is time for a major renovation. As I said, I do not mind the style but it is the physical layout of the rooms that is the problem. The connecting room doors — thankfully nobody was staying next or I know I could have heard everything — remind me of a 1970s or 1980s Holiday Inn. Having the television, armoire and desk on the far side of the room when there is a huge empty space at the back of the room by the big window, at least in my king-size room on the 14th floor (really the 13th floor), makes no sense whatsoever. In addition, having the television on the side makes it difficult to watch from the bed. All of the furniture was in good condition. It would be nice if they had proper blackout window blinds, as the exterior light is significant at night. The bathroom was also very dated, especially the yellow light switches (including the timer light switch). It was also weird having the vanity and washbasin outside of the bathroom. This is something I have only seen at older Courtyard hotels. The closet, located directly across from the vanity, was large but its door was a mirror. This also struck me as very dated, though it does make the space look bigger. On a side note, my room came with most of the usual toiletries, though mouthwash, a sewing kit and shoemint were missing (many Marriott hotels provide these). No slippers were provided. One robe was hanging in the closet, which was a bit odd because some guests might be staying with their spouse. As for the other things business travelers care about:
-- The high-speed, wireless internet (complimentary for elite guests) was more than adequate.
-- There were plenty of electrical outlets for charging devices in the room, including by the bed.
-- The desk had plenty of space for work, but the chair was very cheap and didn't match the room décor.

As an elite guest, I had access to the concierge lounge. This was a nice space with a couple of televisions, pop, water, and coffee. There was also fruit during the day. In the evening, they served a nice salad (mixed greens, either dried cherries or dried cranberries, parmesan cheese, and nuts) with some other appetizers and snacks for dinner. The dessert options were very basic: small cookies that tasted a bit stale, potato chips, and lemon tarts. There was an honor bar, but the two bottles of wine were 90 percent empty all evening and never replaced. By the time I went for desert (I stopped by to see what was offered at 8 p.m.) at 9 p.m., there were only two cookies left and half a bowl of potato chips. The attendant told me nothing would be replenished even though there was an hour left of desert service. Breakfast in the concierge lounge was very disappointing. It was a very limited continental offering of basic cereal, thick links of sausage, eggs, soup-like oatmeal and small individual packets of unhealthy, artificially flavored yogurt that can be bought for $1 at grocery stores. There were a couple bowls of cut melons and strawberries. They could have at least offered all-natural, organic yogurt and oatmeal as well as better quality fruit preserves and real honey. Some bread or croissants would have been nice, too. The coffee was hot, but it was of unknown provenance. There was no espresso machine.

Overall, this is nicer hotel than many of the hotel Marriott hotels in the Detroit area. With some renovations and enhancements in service, it could be even better.

Fairly typical Marriott, always know what to expect. Nice location, near restaurants and shopping. Room was clean but a little small. The thing I really appreciated this trip was the service. I was on crutches with a broken foot and all the staff we encountered were always offering to help in any way they could. A shout out of special thanks to Jennifer at the desk and Ali, who were both especially friendly and helpful. Also appreciated the food and drinks in the hospitality suite, nice selection and friendly staff.

This is a great hotel! It appears to have been updated fairly recently, and you can tell. We are preferred Marriott members and for the normal rate, we got a room with a couch, chair, desk, and a wonderful king-sized bed. The bathroom was clean and modern. We will definitely stay here again!

Pro's

* Corner room (so quiet and thank you Marriott staff!)
* Very good bed
* Nice Pool
* Location to businesses and restaurants
* Up front and visible communication for elevator renovations

Con's

* Internet only offered free because I was a reward member
* No additional perks, i.e. free bottle of water, snack, etc.
* Considering the daily rate, a bit more could be done to indulge your guests
* Stairwell is dated - not a pleasant alternative to the elevator

Room Tip: With elevator renovations get a room far away and on a lower floor
