The Casual Chef Café has a wonderful menu for breakfast through dinner, serves Starbucks and has wonderful gelato. But it is more than a cozy, casual restaurant. Above the café is the Pumpernickel Inn. This entire building was a boarding house from years ago used as a hotel for workers installing the railroad that is across the way. The entire place has an old character, creaky floors upstairs, but the rooms are updated, colorfully decorated, and considering they include a full course breakfast off the menu a real deal!! Check them out online. This spot on Red Arrow Highway is super convenient to all places north and south...very centrally located.
The food at the café is inspired. Rosemary potatoes for breakfast are wonderful, tomato soup is a work of art, amount of food is quite generous, and you can just walk 10 paces for gelato if you are not inclined to get the menu dessert (a difficult choice). The staff is friendly and efficient, and you can tell this place is popular as it usually totally fills up by 10 am. We stayed 4 days at the Pumpernickel (third time there), and we were not disappointed.
