“Wonderful Inn”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

We recently stayed two nights at Goldberry Woods for a weekend getaway. It truly exceeded expectations. To begin, the inn in general and the rooms in particular were meticulously clean and tastefully decorated. It felt homey and welcoming, and not kitschy and overwhelming like many B&Bs do. I particularly liked the tree limb posts on the bed--a very nice touch. The owners were welcoming and had great recommendations for places to go in the area. Breakfast was prepared by Julie, one of the owners, and it was delicious. They were good about accommodating food allergies. On top of all of that, what I felt really set Goldberry apart was the things they offered for their guests to do. They have bikes, kayaks, a canoe for guests to use at will. So nice! I can't recommend it enough.

Charming hosts and delightful family make this inn a destination not to be missed. Lovely
spacious rooms with gourmet organic breakfast, afternoon snacks and wine with appetizers.
Close to beach and other attractions. If you've been wanting to try the organic experience
Julie and Eric are both knowledgeable and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our
stay!

We had a wonderful time in Union Pier, Michigan and absolutely loved our accommodations at Goldberry Woods Bed & Breakfast! Our room, the Sassafras Room, was very large and had a lovely deck overlooking their micro-farm. Wine and cheese in the afternoon, cold water and iced tea with muffins or bars nearly all day, and a wonderful breakfast were offered each day. The owners and the staff were so friendly...we simply could not have asked for more!

We recently stayed at Goldberry Woods to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The accommodations were absolutely stunning. The staff could not have been more warm and inviting. This is truly a little gem just an hour outside of Chicago. We cannot wait to plan our return trip!

This was only our second time at a B&B, but we enjoyed it so much more than the first (at another place). I don't think the owners were on site but their assistant April was in charge and she was AMAZING and very hospitable to all the guests. All the other workers were sweet as well.

The house is very up to date with a beach feel, there was no feeling of being in Grandma's dusty house. All the wall colors, beds linens and decorations were so well-coordinated. It is a house and the walls were a little thin so you could hear some clanging in the kitchen, and when a guest decided to run his room's whirlpool at midnight that was mildly annoying. Also, we had some trouble playing a DVD, as we couldn't figure out how to manage the TV input between three remotes. (But their free DVD and book libraries were really good!)

I'm not a breakfast person, but the pancakes one one day and egg casserole on another were delicious. Breakfast was at 9? or 10? Michigan time and they were very prompt. There were fresh baked goodies available all day and a nice wine reception every evening.

There weren't many fruit and/or nut trees yet and I didn't see much evidence of a farm but it seems to be under construction. The path along the river made for a nice walk, however.

We would love to come back and highly recommend it because of the warm staff and atmosphere.

Room Tip: A couple of rooms (Ironwood and ?) are right off the kitchen dining area so they may be noisier in t...

My only disappointment here was that I didn't have enough time to enjoy Goldberry Woods completely.

I was in town for a wedding, so a very short stay. Eric came in from working the farm and greeted me and gave me a very nice tour. He was super laid back and extremely friendly - so nice. After a quick chat and the tour, I quickly changed and headed to the wedding.

In the morning, I awoke to the smell of fresh Michigan air and some delicious bacon cooking. I took a nice hot shower and headed down for - what I planned - was a cup of coffee before heading to the airport. Oh, plans. Before I could sit down, a warm dish of oats, peaches, nuts and coconut was in front of me and I thought, "okay a small quick bite..." Julie had everyone in stitches. She's so smart and charming - talking about local life, farming, politics, and everyday stuff. She was speaking to the whole room, but seemed to make it feel like she was talking to just you. As I was taking a last bite of oats, Julie set down a plate with one of the best quiches I've ever had and a blueberry muffin that was more blueberry than muffin - SO GOOD!!!

I can't say enough about this place, and I hope to return soon. The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable with all the amenities you'd find in any nice hotel. The people are amazing - smart, casual, and professional. And the food is wonderful.

If you get a little more time in town, Eric offered a lot of coupons and freebees at the local wineries and Journeyman Distillery - where the wedding was. Check this out - the best place you can go less than two hours from the city!!!
