“Charming Country Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2013

I agree with all the other positive reviews for this Inn. Dick is a friendly personable host who is more than willing to accommodate the needs of his guests. When it comes to keeping small town America alive, Dick "gets it"! This is not the bland, forgettable chain motel experience. If that's what you are looking for, keep driving!

The owner & host of the Regal Country Inn will take good care of you and if you contact him (Dick Swanson) in advance, he'll take care of any special needs you have. Dick is heavly involved in the community and can give you "insiders" information about any of the activities in the area. The hotel is clean, easy to find, and close to Michigan's wonderful snowmobile trail network. This is a hotel with character and has a nice lobby with fireplace. I highly recommend it. Gary

A colleague and I stayed here a while back and I've never forgotten the experience. The owner was very gracious and accomodating above and beyond what a person has come to expect. The room was also quite charming and very clean. There's nothing like staying in a place where the owner has pride in his establishment and makes sure everything is done right. This is also a very beautiful part of Michigan in any season so there is a lot to do nearby if you enjoy the outdoors. I am hoping to find the time to return to the Regal Country Inn with my family sometime soon. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed for two nights at the Regal Country Inn and was well cared for by the owner. Lots of personal attention like lugging my huge suitcase upstairs, making arrangements to have coffee and delicious cinnamon buns available before I dashed out for work in the morning, having warm, homemade pecan cookies available as I returned after work, and offering additional work-space at no cost. The owner seems to really enjoy having conversation with guests, and is a ready companion for a cup of coffee. If you stay here, take note that the owner will happily make your lunch or dinner, too! Views around back are gorgeous...a lovely, landscaped berm. The Regal Country Inn is simple, clean and homey. I hope to return!

We like to experience different places to stay and things to see, and this Inn was unique. We happen to like antique furniture and decorations (artificial flowers, not so much), books and quiet. The Inn Keeper was there to greet us, supplying us with coffee and cookies soon after we arrived, and making sure our room had a night light. He had the breakfast we requested ready for us in the 50's Ice Cream Parlour, plus plenty of coffee and rolls. And our visits around the fire place, we thought, were informative and friendly. The time it took the hot water to reach our bathroom did not bother us - we live in an early 1900's home - and the reason is not lack of use! We are recommending this Inn to a friend who loves model trains -- and we would come back in the summer, just to sit on the large deck and have a root beer float!

We love the Regal Country Inn just for what it is - a two story Bed & Breakfast style inn! We usually look forward to the complimentary fresh cinnamon and caramel nut rolls every morning with our coffee and excellent selection of teas, but this trip, we asked the owner/great chef to treat us to one of his breakfast creations. We were not disappointed! After a few years of staying in the craziness of the chain motels, and tons of snowmobiles in Ironwood, we were blessed to find Dick and the Regal Country Inn for rest and relaxation for our ski weekend getaways. Indianhead is only 5 minutes away! I believe we have been staying here for 5 or more years now, and have learned so much about the people of the U.P. and the history of the area. We always get a good night's sleep and have enjoyed excellent ice cream and gourmet desserts in the 50's ice cream parlor. Dick has helped us find out of the way places to eat and the best route for getting up to the UP! With all of the knick/knacks of the Country Inn theme, I always wonder at the cleanliness (good job Wanda). Our favorite room now (for only the two of us) is the Study Bedroom with the two very comfortable rocking chairs. Two years ago, our car broke down in the middle of nowhere after leaving the Regal Country Inn on a frigid Sunday morning. We called Dick at the Regal and he quickly found us a very reasonable tow truck (AAA was not helpful at all), let us put our car in his garage til morning and whipped up meals for us for our 2 1/2 extra stranded days. We couldn't have asked for a better host to get us thru a broken-down car ordeal! We totally enjoy the laid back, homey atmosphere of the Regal Country Inn.

This hotel was too quiet-to the point of uncomfortably quiet-we were the only guests. I should have taken a hint went I saw the empty parking lot when we checked in, and the next day when we checked out. The chatty owner showed us the rooms, and they were supposed to have a charming B&B theme, dust included. The breakfast consisted of stale, warmed-over cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice, which was extra. The rooms had a musty smell, likely from the antique furniture in each room. The bathroom was dirty in our room, which was dusty with knick knack clutter. It took a VERY long time for hot water to reach the faucets, too. Must be from lack of use. Good thing I remembered the Clorox wipes. The owner-host was too friendly, and I would gather that he has a lot of time on his hands, as he is quite a talker with few and far between guests. I wonder if this Inn is ever busy, or fully occupied? We will never know.

Thanks for your review. I must compliment you. Seems the only good thing here, must have been the rates, or did you miss that one. Looking at your history, the 2 places you have stayed at in the last few years just did not meet your standards. We apoligize for having a quiet, homey and comfortable place with a freindly atmosphere. We are, by the way, a Country Inn. (big Bed & Breakfast). My best suggestion would be to plan ahead, make a reservation, at places that meet your requirements.
Thanks again and hope you have happy travels.
