“Pokey room, small double bed, no sleep and over priced”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2012

The building and setting are lovely but the hotel offers very poor value for money and that is before you are kept awake until 1am by the disco downstairs. The floor was shaking and the noise was so loud watching tv was not an option. On complaining that we couldn't sleep because of the noise, the duty manager had the audacity to ask us if we had requested a "quiet room" when we made the reservation. Customer service is obviously not something this hotel prides itself in!

The room itself was very disappointing. It was very narrow, with a small double bed and barely room to walk down the sides. The window was obscured by the parapet outside, so the room was dark too. The bathroom was a reasonable size but the shower head was so clogged with limescale, there was limited flow and it sprayed water in various directions.

Food was good but overall, I would not recommend this hotel. If you are there for a function you'd be better off getting a taxi back to Marlow and staying somewhere else.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

I booked a room for a night in this hotel for a family wedding, which was great fun. The room rate was £179. We retired at 23:30 but unfortuntely our room was directly over the wedding party area which had a live band & disco until 01:00.

As a result, not only did it sound like we were still on the dance floor while lying in bed, but the contents of the room were actually vibrating.

We called reception (at 23:30) and asked if they could move us, but were told that the hotel is fully booked, so NO. We tried to watch TV & doze but it was to no avail - 00:45 we called the front desk again and were told to wait a few minutes as the party ends at 01:00. We had no other choice but to wait until past 01:00.

Next (this) morning we spoke with the duty manager - she said that we should have booked a "quiet room" !!! I replied that I've never heard such a ridiculous reply - I've stayed in many a hotel in many countries and she agreed that it is a fair assumption that when booking a hotel room you should not only be able to use it for sleeping, but that 01:00 isn't a reasonable time to expect the room's occupants to go to bed.

Asking if it was fair to assume that not everyone at the party was going to stay up until 01:00 and therefore would want to be ble to SLEEP when going to bed, she agreed and would have a word with management for future booking out of the room during the next function which may produce noise in that part of the hotel. This sounds like an admission of fault to me?

Anyway, we asked why the room was still for hire even when they knew that it wouldn't be quiet, we were told that as we were part of the wedding it wasn't a problem! We were offered a £25 discount for our bill. Not accepting this we were advised that there's nothing else that could be offered as a discount - I suggested a full refund as the room was not fit for purpose. We asked to speak to the next level of management (Deputy General Manager) but were advised that "I'm not prepared to do that as I'm in charge here today" and offered a further £25 discount. Our customer satisfaction obviously wasn't worth a quick call to the next level to keep a couple of customers happy !

My father-in-law in the adjoining room had the same problem. We asked to be contacted by the Deputy GN to discuss this issue further . . . we wait with baited breath . . .

So - if staying in this hote, avoid rooms 302 & 303, or ask for a "quiet room" !!!

Room Tip: Avoid 302 & 303 if you want to SLEEP at night !!!

I have stayed at Danesfield on a number of occasions, eaten dinner and afternoon tea. Each time i have visited i have not been dissapointed, the food has always been to a high standard

The grounds are lovely, especially in the summer for a pre-dinner drink on the patio overlooking the river
The spa is good and i have had several treatments there.

Will definatly return

Old fashioned service where the guest comes first. Very pleasant staff with a can do attitude
Great room service burger, served hot and within 20 minutes of ordering
Delightful to have a mini bar in the room rather than an empty fridge in some hotels
Excellent breakfast and prompt service

Stayed for 2 nights for a catch up weekend with the girls. Ate in the Orangery restaurant which was fabulous (lobster with saffron risotto.. Yummy). Pool and spa area is a highlight. Hotel is near Marlow which is perfect for Christmas shopping.

We arrive in a typical Thames Valley fog, but the welcome in the hotel lifted the gloom. Our room was enormous, and had a beautiful view over the Thames (which we saw the next day when the fog had lifted).

An anniversary cake was waiting for us....lovely and to hell with the calories.

The spa swimming pool was lovely, and uncrowded.

We ate at the Orangery which was lovely.

Nex time we'll probably come back in the summer.

We booked an afternoon tea in July for my partners birthday. Very hot day and we got a table outside...lovely. 20 minutes later we finally got someone attention to get some drinks, pimms, bubbly and water. 15 minutes later whilst sweating in the heat we ask where are drinks were. the bubble and water turn up. then the full afternoon tea. still no pimms. The beef sandwiches were sent back as they were dry and stale...still no pimms. finally i went in search of Pimms. The waiter apparently didnt understand what i'd ordered. brilliant. the cakes were all very stodgy and heavy, nothing dainty or fancy. I made my feelings known but nothing was done about it. the wedding party had arrived by then and were having their drinks reception in the middle of all us afternoon tea's. not really what i'd hoped for at nearly £50 a head.
