We have been staying at an Inn nearby for 24 years and when it burned down last year we had to look for a new place. Well we found a delightful place and enjoyed our stay at the Lakeside Inn. Our room was spacious and had a great view of Whitehall Lake. We did miss hearing the waves from Lake Michigan, but got a lot of water time for our kayaks. Several friends from our previous lodge are also staying at Lakeside so it feels like HOME! We have made our reservations for next summer. They also have a great pool and the grounds are well kept.

Pros: Grounds are nice, staff is very courteous and helpful. Secluded location (if thats what youre after). Free Wifi.

Cons: Tiny rooms, with doubles instead of queens. No coffee pot, no iron, no hair dryer in room. Tiny shower in a tiny bathroom. Everything needs a makeover from the old worn carpet to the cracked tiles and rusty pipes on the toilet. the faucets were missing labels and the water came out in a weird spray into the slow runningdrain. Not to mention the 19" tube tv with wires hanging down which was operated by a remote I had to hold up and point at an angle. Dismal selection of channels. Everything felt cheap including the cheap sticky chairs in the dining area. The cereal was soggy and the danish was tiny. No bananas. As you can tell there are too many "no's".

Bottom Line is we expected more. The pretty grounds and location were not enough to make up for the condition of the place. It just needs major renovation. Its really more of a motel in a nice location than a resort.

The staff was very pleasant and our stay wasnt terrible but I think my critique is fair and honest. At almost $200 a night one could do better.

The Lakeside Inn Resort is like the quaint old resort featured in the movie Dirty Dancing (but smaller). There are no phones or WI-FI in the rooms. There is a basketball court, shuffle board, tennis court, and heated pool right outside the rooms. I was a little worried about our motel room not having A/C, but the nights were cool so it wasn't a problem. It's old school motel. Don't expect granite countertops, top-of-the-line bathrooms, or too many other luxuries. I've stayed in plenty of hotels in my life, and the best time I've ever had was at the Lakeside Inn Resort. Unplug your family and spend time at a family-owned place that is not a cookie cutter chain. My 11-year-old and 8-year-old LOVED this place. We spent our time participating in family activities when we weren't at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for Suzuki Family Camp. The young man at the front desk was awesome! Very helpful and nice. We will return again next year for sure!

Room Tip: We like the motel rooms because they have a front and back door and open up right onto the lake on o...

The Lakeside Inn is a historic Inn on Whitehall Lake. It has a kind of old fashioned feel. Knotty pine paneling is nice, but the carpet is awful and should be replaced with hardwood or at least Pergo flooring. The staff is very nice and accomodating. This is a very family friendly place! Breakfast is sufficient, but on the busy weekends when something ran out, it was not replenished.

Room Tip: There's no swimming on Whitehall Lake. The pool is nice and you can drive to Lake Michigan not...

IF - you want to travel back in time to a place where you can drift in old world luxury, sleep deeply in AC rooms with the window cracked to hear the water, and not lock your doors. Play lawn games with your family on long grassy lakefronts, fish, sail, read under 100 yr old willows, then this is your place. If you want to play on real shuffle board courts, tennis courts, walk up the road to get an ice cream like they did 50 yrs ago, golf across the street, take the family to the piers or even the Dunes. This place is it. I come back year after year, to a non manufactured, real, cottage home. No fake old wood, flowers, hotel hallways, or $8 hr staff who couldnt care less about your day. How bout near butler service, fountains, real meaningful nastalgia ? How bout sneaking off and finding a path that led us to Lake Michigan right at sunset, and noone was around ? How bout NOT using your Hilton card and go back to an owner operated Inn that delivers top quality food, service and most of all ----- relaxing laid back environment. ok so Michigan Adventures is 10 min away. Kids love the water park and rides. We ended our trip at the Pier, I fished and caught a 5 lb small mouth bass, while my teen boy and his friend met kids and dove 10 feet into lake Michigan, while my daughter and wife found shells on the beach. 5 min from the hotel. Best trip .... since our last stay. How bout you try it cause I really recommend this hidden diamond on White Lake.

Room Tip: The Ranch Houses are bigger, and have AC, secluded, and worth the extra money. We brought our boat a...

Lakeside Inn Resort is a family owned local business that is charming and home grown - NOT part of a commercialized chain. The staff are welcoming, the setting is beautiful and peaceful, and the Lodge is full of White Lake and Lakeside history. I have never had anything but perfect sleep and have left rested and re-energized. In short, I find it to be perfection. That said, it is an older building that is not in perfect shape - but that is part of its charm. If you love out of the way places that are unique, warm and full of history - this is the place for you.

Room Tip: If you want a bit more modern, ask for upper motel. For the more traditional and 'old school'...
