“5 Stars plus”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from a wonderful 10 day holiday at this 5 star plus Hotel. From the housekeepers to the senior managers nothing was too much trouble for them. The atmosphere was superb and the quality exuded on every level. I have stayed at some Internationally famous hotels but this is up there for quality and excellence. Special mention must be made of the quality of the entertainment, from traditional Greek to a wonderful Soprano ( Galina Kynch) to a superb International group Fuego Du Lunar - their versatility was excellent - from Greek music , to foot tapping Shadows music, and to end the evening with an operatic piece made famous by Katherine Jenkins "Time to say Goodbye" and I have only heard it sang better by the lady herself, however this did make my hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. This holiday was a welcome rest for both my Wife and myself and all this was made possible by the staff of the Marbella Beach Hotel - many thanks to you all

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday at Marbella Beach, we had a fantastic time, the hotel was lovely and clean, food was as good as we have had in any Greek Island hotel, and we have never been offered smoked salmon and champagne for breakfast before, we declined the champagne but the salmon was gorgeous, especially with scrambled egg. We found all the staff friendly and always cheerful, we didn't encounter anyone who was rude during our stay. The entertainment was grim in the evenings and the Beatles tribute band should never, ever be booked again. We spent most evening propping up the bar, and the head barman was lovely, a special mention to him, his Black Russian was memorable. We stayed all inclusive, but I would disagree that the Hotel is geared to guests staying on this tariff, we often felt that it was geared to 'pay as you go guests'. Perhaps the hotel needs to make up it's mind what sort of clientele they want to gear themselves towards.

The hotel is built on a hillside which means the views are amazing, but it also means a lot of climbing, we found a way down to the beach which meant we did not need to go through a tunnel or cross a road, or lots of steps, it seemed to make the climb back up a little better. The beach is sand and shingle, but mostly shingle so if you are thinking of going make sure you pack some shoes to walk into the sea in, I didn't and regretted it. We paid extra for a sea-view room and yes you could see the sea from the side, but the room was also on top of the Restaurant and looked out over a car park and the side of the hotel so not the view I had expected and I was somewhat disappointed at that. We have had better views in the past from just a request fro a sea view room, with no extra cash changing hands.

During the last few days of our stay the Hotel busied up enormously and I would not be sure how it can cope with busy times in July and August, we struggled to get sunbeds by the pools if we weren't down there before 9.30 in the morning, and sometimes that was the same at the beach.

We also went down to breakfast a couple of times to be told that the restaurant outside was full, on checking this we found that there were lots of tables to be had, so beware of that. It is different thing to be told that it is at capacity, not to be told it is full when it clearly is not.

All in all we had a great time, with only a few very minor niggles and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone

Room Tip: Make sure that the sea view room you are paying for is actually going to be that.

Just home from what should have been a two week holiday but had to come home early as our daughter was taken ill. From what we saw and the facilities used, it was a real pleasure to stay here. The staff were all helpful and nothing was ever too much trouble. We also used the childcare facilities as our daughter was under 4 so had to go in the paid nursery. The three staff here were amazing with the children and our daughter settled in very well.

We will definitely be booking up again but this time we will definitely be asking for a sea view away from the restaurant area. Our room was directly below the restaurant and we was woken up each morning very early when they were setting up.

Apart from this we can not fault the hotel at all.

Room Tip: Avoid room 429 - very noisy in the mornings when they are setting up for breakfast.

We are a family of 4 who stayed here at end of May - first holiday away with 13 year old twins in their own room! We were put in two adjoining rooms, which were nicely presented. The food was great, plenty of choice plus 2 a-la-carte Greek and Italian restaurants which can be used once in your week stay. We could not fault this hotel and it's facilities and would love to stay again very soon :)

We had a lovely relaxing family holiday at this resort. The views are beautiful and it was wonderful to lay in bed and look out on the panoramic view of the sea. We had a superior sea view room on floor 9. It's very important in this hotel to choose the right room. Worth paying the extra for a sea view. The hotel is built on a hill so there are lots of stairs and walking to everywhere you want to be - this is a downside for people who can't get around easily. The beach is across the road and you have to go through a small tunnel to reach it. The infinity pool is a delight - enormous and just the right depth. The staff were very friendly in particular Matina at reception who was pleasant and answered all our questions and requests. The hotel is located quite out of the way from anywhere. If you want to explore you have to have a car. We were a party of six so we didn't hire a car but the hotel has a complimentary boat trip to Corfu Town which we took and had a nice day out. We were on half board and the food wasn't very special. We did eat out twice at the Taverna on the beach which was excellent. You have to travel by car to get to any other restaurants but I think it would be worth it since the food in the hotel was ok but not wonderful. Our flight home was in the evening but we had to check out mid-day - however the hotel was thoughtful enough to make available another room for one hour for showering etc. just before we left.

Room Tip: I recommend high floor - superior sea view

We stayed at the Marbella from 20th of June for ten days on all inclusive and found the hotel to be just what we needed which was just somewhere to relax and unwind. The staff were all brilliant but extra credit to 'Lefty' in the main bar who looked after us each night, Magda in the main dining area, and all the staff in the beach bar where nothing was too much trouble.
Our room which was in the Nafsika block was ideal for both the beach and main dining area/bar and was kept spotless by the maids who changed towels and bed daily. Our only criticism would be the entertainment of a night, not very good, but we like to sit in a bar and relax with a drink so that didn't bother us too much. and lastly we met a lovely couple from Scotland, George & Liz, who made our holiday that bit more special with their company.

The Marbella Hotel sits on a hillside like a giant set of stairs offering each sea view paying guest a wonderful view, the architect that designed the hotel has used the landscape to its full advantage.

On arrival first impression is the marbella hotel is every bit worth it's 5 star rating, modern design, clean, bright and inviting, greeted with a smile too boot.

The standard sea view room is small but for two adequate, clean, flat screen TV and glass screen balcony, very modern and tastefully designed.

Pools are great but for high season I think good get over crowded so something to consider if you are looking to go July/ August.

With this said its time to peel away the onion layers and this is where the hotel starts to drop stars

As this hotel is a about impression and I give them 10 out if 10 for doing that but wait as this hotel has been setup with full inclusive in mind and catering on the cheap to maximize its profits and this is where it lets down the paying customers

The food is repetitive and bland but the blame can not be aimed at the chief as budgets are given and food has to be included, from my opinion I have had better food in smaller hotels where fresh ingredients and canned foods are a no no.

The deserts are tasteless and lack presentation.

Now drinks again back to all inclusive geared entirely for this cheap pre mixed drinks watery and not to 5 star standards, prices are not cheap so watch out

Entertainment on a budget, well that's an understatement, very low rent acts that would be xxx in two minutes on the xfactor very poor, the entertainment manager if budgets are that low get another job you are not doing yourself justice or the hotel guests ear drums.

Beach and bar, take care to wear shoes as the decking has splinters and the nailing would have true carpenters in tears so watch out for this, the beach is man made and not the soft sand you would expect and this is only a small portion of the beach area as the rest is sharp shingle, also be careful in the sea as it's full if rocks and sea urchins which are very painful if stepped on

Water sports is ridiculously expensive 70 euros for a jet ski for 20 mins very rarely seen anyone on it, tried myself so I can review and first ski broke down second one needed oil so not a great experience.

Gardens are stunning well kept and a credit to the hotel

All in all I would sit this hotel on a 4 star rating

Location is not brilliant unless you have a car but that's maybe what the hotel wants, captive audience.

Parking facilities are small for a hotel of this size only just managing to get last space when coming back late at night

TOP TIP

How to save money

Visit a out of location super market stock the room fridge with drinks especially if you have kids and take them pool side

Make sure you bring enough sun tan lotion as it's expensive local to hotels

Would I return yes but would not go all inclusive

Would go half board and bring drinks in
