“The real deal...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2013

No Big Box Food here! This is real BBQ. With real couple who makes the food, sells the food, serves the food, and will talk to you all about the history of the 'Dallas Deli'.

Grand Rapids has a reputable food scene, but is almost entirely lacking when it comes to BBQ. ALMOST! After all, there is the Dallas Deli. And it is great!

Been here a few times great brisket, ribs and sauce. Great sides to go along. Like Mac & cheese, cole slaw, baked beans

“Mediocre”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

I had high hopes for Dallas Deli. Unfortunately the food just wasn't very good. Yes, it's a dingy little place, but most barbeque joints are. The problem is the food. The brisket had no smoke flavor whatsoever. The sausage was flavorless. The spicy barbeque sauce was ok but wasn't really that spicy. I got texas toast, which amounted to a toasted piece of wonder bread with butter on it. Pathetic. The baked beans tasted like they were canned, though they were clearly doctored in house.

Sad to say, Dallas Deli just isn't that good.

“Over sauced, fatty and dry ribs.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2009

First the place is mostly carry out...which is fine, cuz that's what I was doing. There's about 4 tables inside if you wish to eat in the q joint itself.

It's next door to a barbershop... Have you ever been to a barber shop from the 60's with dark wood paneling, chrome legged chairs etc.. and the stale odor of cigarettes in the air.

We'll if you have you've been to this bbq joint too.. It reminded me of a barber shop..that hadn't been updated or cleaned in a long time. The TV set was getting a channel via rabbit ears. I was just waiting for the counter person (probably the cook too) to wipe his mouth on his shirt sleeve. That's the atmosphere this place eludes.

To be fair I did place my order (1/2 slab ribs 2 sides ,slaw and redbeans and rice) about 40 mins b4 closing time (6pm on Monday).
I took it back to my hotel and got it there hot.

The ribs were dinosaur sized but not very tasty completely over powered by the sauce (hot). and there was way way way too much sauce..the ribs were swimming in sauce. I couldn't finish my portion (I split the dinner).

The red beans and rice were dried out. One or two bits was enough for me.
The cole slaw tasted strange, dry, not creamy...maybe it had pickle juice or some thing in the mix....but it tasted odd. One spoonful and I was done.

It came to about 14 bucks

Nope if asked again I'd say nope, I'd drive to Holland for a Fred burger from Goog's instead.
