Was delighted with the very scenic location of this resort. This was a business trip so not much opportunity to try out facilities but basics of room was disappointing for a Shangri-La. The overall room I was in was dated and that would have been ok if there were at least fresh clean sheets and towels. Sheets and towels had a stench and one would question if the laundry is up to standards. Bed and pillows were not comfortable. Shower temperature took awhile to run warm and shower stall also had an unpleasant smell. Staff were lovely though and friendly throughout. Breakfast and lunch Buffet at main coffee house was average.

First let me tell you a little about the hotel, it's situated up in the hills in Muscat city and the hotel is divided into 3 smaller hotels. Al waha, al bandar and al husn are the 3 hotels, al husn hotel being the most expensive and exclusive.
We stayed at the al waha hotel and our room overlooked the pool area. The rooms are spacious and modern. You can go to each hotel without restrictions and use their respective facilities.
The pool is really big and a lazy river runs upwards through all the hotels which is quite neat. You have plenty to do there, from playing life size giant chess pieces to walking on the turtle beach.
What I liked:- the breakfast spread and quality of the food.
What I didn't like :- the beach is almost unusable because of the sharp rocks which are all over.

Dear Muzzo S, Thank you for your nice description of the resort in regards to your stay at Al Waha last December. Like others who have reviewed the resort thank you for highlighting the lazy river and other facilities of the resort. In regards to the beach we do carry out regular beach cleaning activities and when we do this remover any sharp rocks that have been washed up. Warm regards, Mark Kirk

Lovely hotel, Husn is by far the best, Great food at Al Tanoor restaurant. Avoid Al Waha hotel...seems like a cheap package tour hotel!!
A great time and a fab hotel BUT..avoid the few shops they have in the separate complex. Very over priced, exact same items are available at less than half the price in town.
Very aggressive and arrogant staff at the shops, went there with a group of people, the staff actually made the older members of our group very nervous. My advice to hotel, train your staff to be less aggressive and lower your shop prices.
Will definitely stay there again.

P.S. was not able to get transfers to the airport, had to take a regular taxi!

Room Tip: Husn is the best

Dear James J, Thank you for posting your feedback on TripAdvisor in regards to your recent visit. I appreciate your feedback and thank you for highlighting the food served at Al Tanoor. While the shop keepers at the souk area are not employed directly by the resort I will certainly discuss your feedback with them as the reason we have the shops is to add to the overall guest experience. Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. Warm regards, Mark Kirk

This was the first vacation to the Middle East we chose the Shangri La this is a large site split into 3 we stayed in the Al Hsun which is the 5 star part of the complex it caters for couples of all ages but it's not geared for children if you want a quiet relaxing warn and private beach this is the place to come to the welcome is wonderful the hotel is grand and opulent the sea views spectacular with mountains as the backdrop. The food is amazing and so much choice the pre dinner drinks on the terrace is included in the price so is the contents of the mini bar (except the hard liqueur) service is really pleasant and welcoming nothing is to much trouble whatever you need they will make it happen.
No matter your by the pool or down at the private beach when you find your sun bed the attendant will make it up for you then disappear returning with your complementary cool box of iced water and cans of fruit juices and for the ladies cans of spray mist to cool you down. If your ice melts don't worry they come round and swap your cool box for a new one. Iced towels are brought to you for cooling down this is normally followed by a cooling sorbet
I should also mention that there are numerous restaurants that you can use in the complex and all can be charged to your room anything from a toasted snack to 5 star dining the choice is yours
The Al Husn also include high tea in the afternoon for its guests complementary
We have just returned and a word of caution end of May June July and August is hot we experienced temperatures of between 42 and 47 during our stay with a humidity level close on 100% it didn't put us off but it is worth noting.
We had a wonderful time and we plan to go back perhaps in March next time when it's still warm but little to no humidity
Great holiday all round and if you have children the La Barr and Al Jissah cater for the children all in the same complex.

Room Tip: We asked for a sea view we got what we asked for room 1309 any room on the 2nd and 3rd floor will gi...

Dear dti-daveb, Thank you for your positive feedback in regards to your recent stay in Al Husn. I am delighted you appreciated the little touches the staffs take in Al Husn to make guests stay so special and that you enjoyed the convenience of the variety of restaurants available at the resort. As with the rest of the world the weather patterns are slightly different than before and May was much hotter than usual but it will certainly be much cooler if you come in March. We spent a long weekend in this beautiful hotel. Had plans to explore the surrounding area but couldn't bring ourselves to leave. Lovely rooms close to the great pools. The hotel is in a fantastic secluded location between the hills and the beach. Look forward to returning soon!

Dear MervMackay, Thank you for reviewing the resort recently. While it is always nice to hear from guests that they want to spend every minute in the hotel it is sad that you missed some of the beautiful sights in Oman. It certainly is a good reason to return and spend a longer time in Oman! Warm regards, Mark Kirk

The Shangri-La has a stunning location: a beautiful secluded cove with pictoresque cliffs and the mountains rising just behind it. The setting is much more dramatic than the Chedi’s or the Bustan palace’s.

The problem is that this small cove houses three separate hotels, the Husn, Waha, and Bandar. Each of them is very big, with over 600 rooms in total! Though they are separate buildings, they’re right next to each other, and form a massive continuous wall when seen from the sea.

While the cove already feels far too urban and built-up, in the past few years they’ve unfortunately built additional residences and townhouses overhead and to the side, and they’ve added a private harbor. Now the cove just south of the Shangri-La is being developed as well.

It’s a shame, as the hotels in themselves are very good. Service and attention to detail are impressive, particularly in the Husn with its many amenities. But even the cheaper Waha hotel is good as long as one has an ocean facing room and doesn’t look out into the courtyard. Rooms in each the three hotels are large and very comfortable, though somewhat less impressive than in some of Shangri-La’s other worldwide properties.

Food in the hotel’s many restaurants is good as well, though it can be quite pricey. As the hotels are so big, breakfast in Bandar and Waha feels a bit like in a large cafeteria.

So the overall impression is bittersweet. It’s a very good hotel, but there is simply far too much of it for such a nice site.

Room Tip: If you stay at Waha, then choose a room in the from that looks directly out onto the ocean and not a...

Dear elber2, Thank you for sharing your feedback with the readers of TripAdvisor in regards to your recent stay. While I am delighted you enjoyed you stay I am sorry to hear that you believe the site is over developed. While Al Husn does have the feeling of isolation it does have the advantage of the various restaurants and bars on offer at the other two resorts. In the end I guess its up to personal taste. This is by far one of the best holiday vacations my family and I have been on. The service from the reception to the pool attendants, to the waiters and the room service was beyond our expectations. It was my birthday and out anniversary and the hotel staff made it magical. With fruit baskets to chocolate cake and champagne delivered to our room, the magic was there. The pool attendants brought cold towels every half hour to ease the heat, the free use of the canoes, the arrangement of a boat rid, the list goes on and on. Thank you Yousef, the catering manager for the special dinner you arranged. We had a wonderful wonderful time.

Room Tip: All the rooms were great. Our room overlooked the beach.
