My wife and I have just returned fro a week at the Al Husn - we could not fault the hotel in any way. The rooms, staff and decor are 5star + plenty of facilities and top class eating.I was recovering from a broken leg but as transport is provided to wherever youn wish to go this did not proove a problem.Loved every minute of it.

Stayed at the Bandar (middle of the 3 hotels) having previously been a fan of Dubai and having been put off by all the building work and the escalating cost of going there. This hotel is not for you if you like lots to do as it is some way from town, but if you want to fly and flop, have a variety of dining experiences from casual to more formal, and like a bit of luxury then you will enjoy it. Not sure about the star sytem - no treats on the pillow or on your sunbed (bits of fruit, a cold towel to mop your brow like in Dubai!!) but otherwise excellent. 32 degrees most days also helped! We will defininitely return!

Just got back from ten fantastic days, staying at the Al Waha (the 'cheaper' hotel of the three) and we have not been disappointed.

The hotel complex lends itself to a magnificant beach (apparently the best in Oman); excellent facilities - no end of swimming pools and a great gym and lovely people - the staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you.

I would certainly recommend this hotel for couples or those with young famillies. We don't have children yet - we are expecting our first in July - however, we observed the way in which the staff interacted with those with young children and it was a joy to see - very child friendly.

The hotel is nestled into the mountains and it is true that there is nothing to do directly outside of the complex. However, a shuttle service does take you to some nearby souks, but be warned, this is not Dubai and the quality of shops on offer are very average. That said, this is a place where you can truly go and escape the rat race for a couple of weeks and come back to feel refreshed.

Whilst we were there it was the season for turtles laying their egss - we witnessed this and again, an amazing experience. A big word up for the Turtle Ranger, Mohammed - a really good bloke - if you do go, search him out and ask him about the dolphins.......

Alas, this was our last big holiday before our first born arrives in July - we have stayed at some places across the world and this place is certainly in the top 2.

Finally - hotel - excellent - people - very friendly and warm - resort - excellent - facilities - excellent.

The only negative is that the food could be improved and it is expensive - but even that pales into insignificance when you measure the whole experience.

Go for it.

Honest Yorkshireman.

We stayed at the Al Husn hotel for 10days in early February and found the hotel faultless. We have stayed in so many hotels and are very fussy travellers.
Our room over looking the private beach , service , and restaurants were excellent we will certainly return but I'm sure it won't be long before Muscat starts to look like Dubai so get there while its still magical.

Just returned from a 5 day stay at Al Husn Hotel with my wife. Our intention was to go to a highly rated , quality hotel and do very little. It did not disappoint. It was magnificent. From the moment we walked into the cool hotel lobby we started to relax. Our bags were taken and we were invited to take a seat in the lounge, have a cold glass of apple juice until our room was ready. The rooms were luxurious and flawless. The private beach at the hotel was great, with plenty of space and sun lounges. The staff would bring us cold drinks and ice cream sometimes (even sprays of Evian!). The infinity pool was stunning and again there was plenty of space. We found the staff extremely courtious and helpful. We had the use of the facilities at the other two hotels and these also seemed very good. If we were to take children either of the other two hotels would be suitable. My wife had a couple of treatments at the Chi spa which she loved. At night we enjoyed going for drinks at the Piano lounge at Al Bandar; the silver lounge (cigar lounge)at Al Husn was a gem for a quiet drink, read, board game, and they provided nice chocolates. I do agree with some of the other review about the food: It was generally good, sometimes very good, never exceptional, on a couple of occasions poor. We both had an awful meal at the seafood restaurant at Al Bandar (grilled prawns for me, seabass for my wife). When we complained about the very poor seabass( not fresh or overcooked) we were told it was 'not a local fish'. Our meal at the Sultanah restaurant was not fantastic but it is worth a visit. (Our breakfasts there were fine.0 My wife ordered lamb cutlets that were mostly fat and could not be eaten. They apologised profusely and did not charge us for it, and gave us 2 excellent desSerts and coffee as recompense. We really liked the moroccon restaurant at Al Husn. The buffet at Al Bandar was also worth visit. Generally the pool bars provided good food; excellent sandwiches at Surf bar at Al Waha, decent pizzas/burgers at Circle bar. There was a daily BBQ lunch at one of the Al Husn beach bars that looked worth a try. Some reviewers have questioned whether it should be a 6 star hotel. Well I'm not sure what one is expected to get for 6 stars, nor do I care, but if you want complete relaxation and to be well looked after, you won't go far wrong with this hotel. Can't say much else about Oman because apart from visiting the Souk in Muskat we did little else..next time...
