Expect to get wet unless you are wearing shorts, even at low tide. Time spent was enjoyable, but marginal having to wait three hours for low tide.
The views are hard to capture with a camera due to the lighting conditions.

It's a pleasant walk down to the beach from the car park, for which you have to pay, and the caves are spectacular. The only downside is the loo in the car park which really should be avoided, it is dire. Go before you arrive or after your visit! Given that you are paying for your visit, a decent loo is not an unreasonable expectation - everywhere else in NZ seems to manage this

I´ve been there ten years ago and my question was: Did we walk all the way? But our walk was worth this nice place! Little bit wet after the rain and my daughter was not too happy ...until on the beach. Worth walking!

Great walk along the beach and a good 'grunt' back up to the car park. $5 fee but well worth going to see the Caves - you have to work around the tide

The caves are big, but I was expecting to be completely bowled over by them which I wasn't. The walk in is nice and the caves are at the end of another stunning Catlins beach. In terms of effort versus satisfaction, I rate the McLean Falls much more highly.
