What a treat! We loved our cabin " The Looney Bin" it was beautifully decorated and had everything we could need and more. The log bed in the loft was so comfortable, I cannot remember sleeping so well. The lake was quiet and so peaceful. We have never seen so many loons, even a nesting pair! We spotted many eagles perched on trees and flying over the lake. We even had a buck visit in the back yard of our cabin. I had the pleasure of getting a massage in the lodge which was wonderful. The massage suite decor was breathtaking and tranquil. Sue was lovely, so helpful, a beautiful soul that has a passion for her place in the pines.

I wish there were more stars to give this place! When I arrived at 1:00 in the morning the owner, Sue was there to meet me and make sure we were happy with everything. It was so nice not to have to go on a scavenger hunt to find the office and then find the cabin! I was in awe of how clean everything was! Everything about this cabin was perfect. I could tell how much she love and care about what she does and the quality she give her guest!

The Wilderness Lodge with its beautiful, historical ambiance and the untouched piece of nature is the prefect place to find peace with you and with nature, or just to be contemplating on life on beauty, to enjoy the clear, rich air, the priceless, 'heavy', silence or the trees' 'noise' when the trees are talking to each other or to feel the waves of the lake in your soul, or listening to the loons calling each other...

Forget your busy life, just come and visit this place, stay as longer your spirit wishes...

I stayed with some friends at one of the cabins on this lodge property for almost a week. First of all the accommodations are excellent, with four beds and a loft bed plus a couch. The beds (and couch) are all clean, comfortable and tidy. The cabin itself was nicely decorated and included all of the amenities you could expect. The kitchen is big with a nice large table. It has a short stones' throw access to the lake with an large balcony. A BBQ is provided which we used almost every day. The lake itself is clean and one of my roommates had no problem catching enough fish (variations of bass) to eat every day. The only thing lacking that I can remember is that there was no decent sized sharp knife in the kitchen, but I am sure this would have been provided if I had just asked the very pleasant staff for one. All in all an amazing and peaceful stay and I will definitely be going back!

Room Tip: Ask for the cabin right on the lake if you have a group of up to 6 people.

The Wilderness Lodge is just absolutely amazing, breathtaking and more! Everything about this place was a blessing to my whole family and will definitely go back in the future...over and over again! :) Whatever it is that you desire in a vacation is here...fishing, boating, swimming or just relaxing by the lake or in front of a campfire, you can do it all! My family staying in the Looney Bin cabin for a week long conference held at the Wilderness Lodge and the cabin just exceeded any expectations. It felt like home and was beautifully decorated and updated too! You will not regret coming to the Wilderness Lodge!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Wilderness Lodge is located deep in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest, nestled in the pines along the shore of beautiful Turtle Lake. Lost in time, this grand log estate once served as a booming resort for fishermen, hunters, and families from across the United States and Canada. Today, Wilderness Lodge is a secluded Northwoods Inn where guests can unplug from the world and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life as they relax in the rustic elegance of our luxury log cabins. The Lodge is one of the last remaining full log structures of its kind in the area. From its humble beginnings as a trapper's cabin built in the late 1800s, the original resort owners first planned to live in the cabin and operate a silver fox farm on the property. However, family and friends quickly fell in love with the beautiful lake and magnificent scenery so their vision soon changed to wanting to share this paradise with others. This was the beginning of the amazing transformation from a simple trapper's cabin into a family resort with a historic log Lodge and guest cabins. Your hosts, Sue and Jozsef, have lovingly restored the property to its former state of elegance with some luxurious new upgrades. Once you open the door of the Lodge or cabins, your eyes are immediately drawn to the variety of trophy mounts and treasured antiques. You will find that the rich patina of the logs and the warmth of the fireplaces beckons you to come in and make yourself at home. Step into the Lodge and you will be taken back in time to the era of the great timber barons with the rich leather furniture, mahogany grand piano, granite fireplaces, beautiful antiques, pool table, and the incredible collection of trophy mounts. The Lodge serves as the personal residence of your hosts but it is open during the week for spa appointments, tours and special events. Our incredible Lake Escape Spa is located in the west wing of the Lodge. Here you can indulge and pamper yourself with one of our signature spa treatments while enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the historic Lodge. After your treatment you can relax near the water's edge and soak in the incredible sounds of the waves splashing against the shore and the loons calling across the lake. Wilderness Lodge now hosts weddings in our historic Log Chapel in the Woods or at our beautiful lakeside log pergola. Our experienced staff will help you create the romantic wedding of your dreams! We can also plan the perfect surprise engagement or romantic get-away. We invite you to come for a visit and experience the majestic beauty and peaceful solitude of God's unspoiled paradise. Your visit will leave you feeling physically and spiritually refreshed and rejuvenated. ... more   less
