“Location location location!”

Buck hill is an excellent ski resort especially for beginners. the instructors are super nice and cool and the overall atmosphere is fun! Being that it's really close to the Twin Cities and the surrounding suburbs, it's just a hop skip and a jump to get to. The runs are little short but there are adequate green circle areas as well as some blue squares. The last thing this hill will make you feel is intimidated. They have a snow tubing area which looks really fun! There challet does food throughout all hours of operation during the day and they have a bar/restaurant open in the evening hours. Did I mention if you go there early when they open you can get an early bird lift ticket for 13 bucks, most other places charge you for a full day minus like four dollars this place is a great value for half days skiing and snowboarding.

“Where else can you have this much fun in 7 degree temps?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 January 2013

I'd been to Buck Hill before to snow tube several years ago and it was a blast. They've absolutely found a way to improve the experience, though, by adding new tubes and a moving platform transport to take snow tube riders up the hill.

It's around $15 per adult for a 2 hour jaunt (depending upon the time of day,) which is plenty of time to wear yourself out and a have a ball sledding down the hill a zillion times. And running down the slope just doesn't get old, it's a fun experience every time.

If you get a little cold, there's a nice bonfire circle that's well maintained and hot drinks and snacks available for purchase. The restroom facilities are nearby in the lodge and there is a restaurant (check hours of operation before you go,) if you'd like to warm up with a meal after spending the day tubing.

We hit the slopes upon opening and were among only a few other riders. As the day progressed, more people came out and the slopes got quite full, but it didn't slow down our progress as there are plenty of lanes open. I think we had to wait a turn only once during the entire visit.

It was quite cold during our visit, but we bundled up with lots of layers and used chapstick and Aquaphor to protect any exposed skin. Snow tubing is a bit of a work out, so it will not seem as cold until you stop.

“Too short runs”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2012

For a beginner this place is good to start learning how to ski but for an intermittent skier the runs are too short and not difficult.

“Well its not the mountains”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2012

I guess its the best Minnesota can do without the actual mountains to go skiing down. However, I felt like paying for a "lift ticket" for a bunny hill was stupid. I would rather go tubing in my back yard.
