“In the autumn, during the apple harvest, a highly enjoyable time”

If you like to walk, there are lovely trails that you can explore. They also offer a tram service, if you'd prefer. The grounds are very well kept, everything from wetlands and native plants, to herbs, to wonderful seasonal flowers.

Each season this deserves a return trip.

In the autumn, make sure you go to the apple stand. The U of M experiments. I tried the 1802 variety (they're numbered first, and if deserve, get a name). Nice time.

I just visited this place today (10/4) and being that it is fall the trees were changing colors and it provided wonderful scenery/pictures. It has many gardens with a wide variety of plants/flowers/roses, as well as about every tree native to Minnesota on the property. You can do the 3 mile scenic drive through the Arboretum (which I highly recommend) but also take a stroll through the gardens. The not only have beautiful plants, they also have waterfalls, ponds, and different sculptures throughout the property adding to its amazement. This place is great to spend an afternoon (plan on 3-4 hours - at least - depending on how much you want to see and how much time you spend looking at all the stuff) and is sure to provide endless beautiful scenery, especially during fall!

We visited the Arboretum in October while visiting the area. It was a great way to spend a fall day. The landscapes are very well maintained and very creative. We would definitely go again!

Located about twenty miles west of Minneapolis, the Landscape Arboretum is a very large outdoor space perfect for an afternoon outside. There is a new visitor center with exhibits and a cafe near the entrance. For seeing the remainder of the grounds, visitors can walk, drive, or board the tram. I recommend walking for those who are able. The road weaves through the different areas with a variety of vegetation, trees, and sculpture. There are many hills and valleys and some impressive views. The main road is three miles long and there are smaller trails that branch off, so it is a good option for an active day.

Unfortunately, I visited this arboretum before the trees were in full bloom on the last day of April. I'm sure it would've been a nicer experience if all the leaves were on the trees and the flowers were blooming. It was a nice day, though, and the walk was nice. No tram tours going out and the 3 mile drive was closed. I would recommend waiting to go there unitl at least mid-May so you can experience all spring has to offer.
