My husband and I had such a wonderful time at the AG Thompson House that we've already discussed making it an annual tradition.

The home is gorgeous and comfortable at the same time, and Duluth is the perfect getaway from the Twin Cities.

You'll leave the AG Thompson house feeling wonderfully refreshed.

Thanks to Angie and Tim -- wonderful hosts!!

Our experience at AG Thompson House was like staying with friends who warmly shared their beautiful home. The house was located in a quiet, well situated neighborhood, and was cozy and comfortable. Angie and Tim made us feel welcome at every opportunity and prepared a delicious, eclectic, fresh, home-cooked breakfast every morning before our ventures into the North Shore.

This was better than any hotel we've stayed in recently ... and we should know. We've worked for a large hotel company for over 40 years between us. The room (we stayed in the North Shore Retreat) was tastefully decorated, and well appointed. Everything was spotless. The public areas in the main house were very inviting and there were several cozy nooks. The gardens were spectacular (although Angie the proprietoress said it was still a work in progress) with lots of summer blooms. And, most important, the hosts Tim and Angie were the essence of hospitality ... they even give out their cell phone to call day or night if needed (we never did). The next morning we had the most delicious hot breakfast with other guests (including chocolate/pistachio muffins, vegetarian quiche, and fruit). We learned that our hosts were vegetarians like us for nearly 25 years ... imagine that in the midwest! Plus complimentary soft drinks/water/wine for all guests as a courtesy.

Go try this out next time you are in Duluth ... but book in advance, the word seems to have already leaked out! If you think you are paying a bit more, trust us it is worth it.

If you were to only stay in a B&B once, this would be the one! Our room was very large with a porch/sitting room and a very large bath - which made for a very comfortable stay. And the breakfasts were gourmet-good. However, what made our visit special was our hosts - Tim and Angie. Their warm, friendly personalities made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.

We called the A.G. Thomson House while enroute from Michigan to Duluth to enquire if they had any available rooms for that night, and luckily for us they did. I had not checked it out online as I usually do so I wasn't sure what to expect. I needn't have worried. Tim, the genial host came outside as we were pulling into the parking area (after following his excellent directions) and welcomed us warmly (this was after 9:00 p.m.).

He took us inside the main house to show us around. It is simply beautiful, the furnishings and many antiques complement the syle of the house perfectly. Home baked cookies (yum) and wine, bottled water, juice and soft drinks as well as granola/fruit bars were all available at no charge. There is also a large selection of DVDs to choose from.

It would have been pleasant to sit in the beautiful living room or sunroom but we were tired after our journey so Tim showed us to our room which was not in the main house but in the Coach House, a separate building on the property. The room was absolutely delightful with many beautiful windows, a large whirlpool tub, a cafe-style table and chairs and a queen bed. The bed had a very good quality mattress which was super comfy and high quality linens.

The next morning coffee was available in the entry hall of the Coach House, just downstairs from the room and it was nice to sit in our room with a cup of coffee before going into the main house for breakfast. Breakfast is served in the main dining room and we started with fruit cup and chocolate pistachio muffins just out of the oven. This was followed by a scrambled egg dish and a quiche, all very good and washed down with more coffee and orange juice. Our hosts Angie and Tim were very entertaining, regaling us with stories about local characters and history.

After breakfast we wandered around the property looking at all the beautiful flowers and enjoying the outdoor seating areas, including a hammock.

The Thomson House is truly a "find" for us and we would have liked to stay longer. Angie and Tim are the most congenial hosts we have encountered anywhere and we certainly plan to return at some time in the future to partake of their excellent hospitality.

A.G.Thomson House was our first experience staying at a bed and breakfast and it truly was a memoriable experience - the house, the rooms, the gardens were breath taking - you really felt at home - everything was so cozy and comfortable, warm and inviting. Our Hosts Angie and Tim only added to the experience - they made you feel so at ease and we so welcoming - great hosts! I won't forget to mention the breakfasts! WOW - so delicious and so much food! We would have breakfast and then go all day without eating until supper time - no room for lunch. Angie is a great cook! - plus her after hours chocolate chip cookies are to die for! We will definetly be going back to stay at A.G Thomson House - a great holiday!

We were about to give up staying at any B&B's in the states after numerous mediocre experiences but our "Canadian" sister-in-law insisted we try the AG Thomson House for our week-end in Duluth.

We are so happy we did! Beautifully restored and updated the Thomson House is a lovely reminder of America's "Gilded age". Nestled in the classic Congdon Mansion District, this 1909 Dutch Colonial is a mere 2 blocks from Duluth's Historic East End walking tour. Some of the rooms have views of Lake Superior, other rooms are esconsed in a by-gone era that truly stimulates the imagination.

The modern amenities ( jetted tubs, fireplaces, DVD's) blend well with the period architecture and decor. But the best feature by far are the Innkeepers themselves.
Tim & Angie Allen have got it all right when it comes to making you feel welcome, special and appreciated. Greeting arriving guests with complimentary wine or soft drinks and fresh baked cookies. Angie & Tim see to your every need. They are well versed in their community's offerings and can tell you how to get there, how much you'll spend and when to arrive for just about any activity in Duluth.

The breakfasts are sublime- no "rolls and coffee" here. A full complement of any breakfast taste sensation, hot and delicious everytime. During our stay the inn was full and it was delightful to meet the other guests in the lovely dining room- surprisingly that was the only time we saw others as our rooms were private and quiet with LOTS of hot water for our spa tub!

Great place- Great town- Highly recommend it.
