We stayed in the "Ivory Room" the nights before and after a dogsledding trip with Wintergreen. With a grocery store nearby, we were able to pick up breakfast and dinner supplies and do some cooking in the shared kitchen. The room was very affordable with the winter rates and the added Wintergreen referral discount. The inn is cozy and centrally located close to restaurants and bars.

My family enjoyed staying at the Inn. It's very homey and clean with a good kitchen facility. The owner was really nice from the moment we made an arrangement until we left. The location is right in the downtown area, with easy access to local restaurants and supermarkets. Their bakery has an amazing breakfast. They have the best scone ever! You get more for the price you paid. I highly recommend it!

A Stay Inn Ely is more like a bed and breakfast with more of a homey feeling. There is a sitting room and full kitchen on the first floor. The rooms have polished wood walls and floors which added a nice touch. We stayed on the top floor and loved the layout. The room is very long which gave us a lot of room to fit our belongings in. The bathroom was very nice with a window, which gave it a more roomy feeling. The room was light and airy, yet private and very quiet. For a stay right in town, it was more than we expected. There is a large porch to sit on and relax. We did have to change our own linens when we were there as you have no room service unless you ask, but we didn't mind that. The only complaint we had is that the so called queen bed was actually what I would consider a double bed. But there was a futon which was fine with us. We rarely had to use our car since a lot of shops and restaurants are located close by. You can go over to the Basket Tree in the morning for a complimentary pastry and coffee. We've already made reservations for next year. If you're looking for a place that doesn't feel like a motel, this fit the bill nicely.

Could have been a nice place to stay - but the owner never called back when he said he would - and did not answer his phone. We considered thist very impolite and unprofessional. As a result, we were delayed waiting for his call and ended up staying elsewhere in Ely later in the day.

My husband and I spent a weekend at A Stay Inn Ely in August 2010. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We rented out the Indigo Room and found it to be very unique. This room is at the top of the Inn in what some may consider the attic. The room had the angled ceiling of an attic. My husband and I admired the woodwork that lined the walls and ceiling and wondered how the owner, Don Bean, got the angles so perfect!

We found the room to be very clean and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean as well. We enjoyed freshed baked goods from the Basketree just down the road. The scones are to die for.

The hotel would be a great place to have a family gathering. There is a spacious lounge and kitchen area for guests to gather in and the wrap around porch is a wonderful place to sit and relax and people watch. The owner's wife told me that several wedding parties had rented out the whole Inn for selected weekends in September so that the family coming in from out of town had a place to stay. What a great idea!

The Inn is very close to many shops and restruants. It is also a nice start to an excursion into the boundary waters. We took advantage of having Don Bean guide us into the BWCA for fishing. It was a wonderful experience and Don is a real class act. We also had fun fishing and enjoying a shore lunch when the day was done. There is no more beautiful place than the BWCA. I can't wait to come back again.

Room Tip: We were able to reserve our room online.
