“Best trip ever!”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

This was by far one of the best trips my husband and I have taken. We had so much fun! I am not a big skier but we wanted to do a winter vacation that was action packed. This was it!

Our guide Dave was incredible. He has been doing this for a while now and was an amazing guide. We loved the dogs and the hands on part of it.

Our cabin was great. We were on the trip with just 4 people so it was us and another couple. The cabin was very large with a nice kitchen and sitting area. And the cabin was WARM. No worries about being cold while inside. The bathroom and kitchen had heated floors and there was a gas fireplace. We were comfy and cozy after our long days out on the sleds.

The food was also delicious. It was brought every night and there was always plenty to go around.

The dogs were great. When we went to get them from the lodge we got to meet the puppies they had which were so cute. We then picked up our teams and got on our way. We went through all kinds of terrain and Dave knew everything about the area from the wildlife to the flora. He was full of fun facts. He was also a great lunch time chef. We did hot meals for lunch every day over a little camp site fire. We also got to see the camp site of the group that camped out all night. It was cool to see since we weren't doing that option. As we got more familiar with things Dave let my husband and I go on the "zip-ships" which are smaller sleds for 1 person as opposed to 2. We had way too much fun with these. We also got to try ski-jouring which is where you hook yourself up to a dog and put on some cross country skis and let them go over the lake. That was awesome.
Too many nice things to say about this trip. It is a must try for anyone! Your guide will be sure to make it the best trip.

This is a definite outdoor adventure,and on that note exceptional. We went with high expectations of a new outdoor adventure and were not at all disappointed with that aspect of it. The lodge and chef part were a non item for us on this trip, and a bit over hyped in our experience. We got farmed out to another resort to stay in their cabin the first and last nites, and the much anticipated last nite dinner banquet was brought over to our off site cabin,and among other things most of the food was cold.Our group consisted of eight people and two guides.( 4 to 6) would have been ideal. Our guides were absolutely phenomenal,and did everything possible to create a winter experience.With that in mind the sledding/camping piece of the trip was grand,and since that's what we went for,who cares about the lodge/chef piece. This is an outdoor camping trip, so go with that in mind,and you'll not be disappointed. We met allot of new friends on this excursion,and that is a reward." Hat's off to the guides,super job out on the trail, you two were pro's and in your element."

Room Tip: Listen to your guides.... (-;

Sitting back at my desk my 1st day back from my Wintergreen dogsledding camping trip and finding it difficult to keep the great memories of the outing from interfering with my duties. Seems like I should be packing the sled and harnessing up the dogs about now instead of this! Cannot say enough good things about Wintergreen's operation. Our guides Max and Jacob were great fellows. Extremely knowledgeable, understanding, hard working and fun! The dogs, equipment, facilities, scenery, people, the sledding...everything was great. If you've never done anything like this before, you'll probably have some hesitation, particularly if very cold temps are on tap. No worries, just follow instructions and you'll be so glad you went. Just do it!

My daughter asked me for an adventure for Christmas and we went to Wintergreen for dogsledding. We've been home for 3 days and I can't stop thinking or talking about the trip. When I think of the memories we made I just smile. Our guides, Max, Jacob and Goose we're fantastic. They truly enjoy their jobs and made it special for all of us. They are engaging, knowledgable and so much fun. All 3 guys are remarkable people. Thank you guys! The dogs stole the show. I actually looked forward to feeding them at 7:30 am in -15 weather. Hearing their barking and howling as we walked toward them was heartwarming. Lena and Ole, xoxo. It was an honor to meet Paul and Susan Schurke the owners. What amazing things they have accomplished in their lives. I just finished Paul's book, "Bering Bridge." The man was part of bringing down the Ice Wall! Lastly the friendships we made with our fellow sledders was so special. It's a bond we will all share, forever!

Our family is looking forward to our third Wintergreen Dogsled Vacation this 2014 snow season. Our three kids (7, 9 & 13) tell us it's the most fun they've ever had! They're especially looking forward to helping train in the yearling sled dogs that were born when we were there last year and to meeting Belle's 6 new pups born this fall! The lodge facility is perfect for family groups, the food is phenomenal and the delightful Wintergreen guides are so great with kids! At dinnertime a few weeks ago when we asked our kids what they wanted to do this winter, they all shouted in unison, "Wintergreen!"

The total experience was awesome. The dogs, the sledding, our guides, the food, the lodging, and the other guests who stayed at our cabin made the whole experience great. To see how pulling sleds is so engrained in the dogs was truly impressive. Their howling and singing that they broke into every time we approached them could be heard across the lake. Learning how to harness and unharness them as well as learning about mushing was a great opportunity. It was a fantastic experience!!

My husband's 50th birthday was coming up and I surprised him with a 4 night "best" dogsledding lodge based package. We have Siberian huskies so we were excited to see Paul Schurke's Canadian Inuit dogs in action. His dogsledding tour was rated on National Geographic's 2012 Ultimate Adventure Bucket List. I can't recommend these guys highly enough. They make sure you have the correct clothes for the trip and constantly check up on you during the tour. Highly recommend renting all outerwear and boots from them - kept me nice and warm even in below zero temps. The guides are not only professional, but friendly and fun. And the dogs are uber friendly. There is an optional sunrise kennel care where you can spend extra time feeding them and putting their harnesses on upside down! The dogs must be used to this because they are so patient. Highly recommend this activity. Yeah, it's hard to get out of bed when it's -11 F out, but you forget the cold when the dogs are jumping up and down happy to see you. The first day of sledding is on a lake on 2 man sleds. You get a good feel of the sled's capabilities and how to manage the dogs. This is a good opportunity to practice getting on and off the sled as you will need that the next 2 days. The next 2 days are all day trips in rolling terrain. If you don't get off the sled on the uphill stints, the dogs will look back at you as if to say, "Dudes, help out!" My husband loved the experience and we are still telling everyone about out trip. We would go back in a heartbeat!
