“Won't be a secret for very long!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2008

I have stayed in hotels ranging from a hole-in-the-wall in a tiny town in North Dakota to Marriott Renaissance resorts that had recently "undergone a multi-million dollar renovation." My stay at the Timberlake Lodge surpassed them all.

Finding it was a breeze; it is located a block off of 169 south of town. There is a movie theater, Target and several fast food places within easy walking distance. The lobby area is very nicely decorated and comfortable. I loved the automatic doors from the outside (sure made getting in and out easy) and the covered entrance came in handy, since it was raining hard when we arrived.

We were quickly checked in and given wristbands for the pool/waterslide area. The room itself (double queen) was stunning. HUGE flat screen tv - I kept turning towards it, thinking it was a mirror. The bathroom is probably one of the nicest I have ever seen. The bathtub alone is reason enough to stay there. It is deep and wide and has great water pressure and fills fast. It was like a small swimming pool for my 8 year old. Complimentary toiletries were of high quality and even included conditioner and mouth wash. Having long hair, I really appreciate it when conditioner is supplied. The hair dryer was a full size dryer, not the miniture-attached-to-the-wall-with-a-6-inch-cord variety. Plenty of drawer and hanging space for longer stays. There was also a microwave and small cube-shaped refrigerator.

We enjoyed dinner in the on-site restaurant. If you stay here, be sure to eat here at least one evening. The atmosphere is casual, but the food is 5-star. The chef makes his own cheesecake, and you never know what flavors will be available on any given evening, but be sure to try one! The children's menu will be sure to please your kids - and is appropriately priced, too. I can't tell you how mad I get when a restaurant charges $6.00 for mac & cheese. We sat at the bar and chatted with the very friendly bartender while we ate.

We took the opportunity to take part in the free breakfast the next morning. This isn't the doughnuts and coffee you find at some hotels. In addition to pastries and coffee, there was juice, milk, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, make-your-own Belgian waffles, a selection of cereals, yogurts, toast, bagels, and a few other things I can't remember. You would be hard-pressed to not find something to eat - and it is all FREE! A big money saver for families with small kids who only want a bowl of Frosted Flakes for breakfast.

The pool area is large and airy, without the oppressive chlorine-infused humidity you sometimes find in indoor pools. Plenty of fresh, clean (and WARM!) towels were available poolside. My 8 and 11 year olds loved the large waterslide. The second of the waterslides advertised is a small one for the toddler set. It is a large resin frog and the kids slide down the tongue into a wading pool. The hot tub was very nice and large with easy to work jets. There was a pool attendant in the evening to keep watch over general activity in the pool area, but there are no life guards. Personally, I think that is a good thing, because it forces parents to monitor their children themselves.

I don't think I have ever been as impressed with a hotel as I am with this one. I simply cannot name one thing or event that detracted from our stay - except that we eventually had to leave.

This was a very enjoyable stay at this motel. It was very clean and the resturant served very good food. The room we stayed in was the standard king room but it was comparable to most upgrades. I have to say the shower was a waterpark in itself. It had a very large shower with water coming from two sides and also from midway on the wall on each side. Great Great Motel. Our rate was $124 per night over the 4th of July holiday weekend. We will be back!!

Clean, Clean, Clean. One of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed at, the best nights of sleep I have ever gotten before and the staff is beyond polite. There is a restaurant located in the hotel where the food is outstanding. The free continental breakfast was fabulous. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub were very relaxing. It is very accommodating if you want a romantic get away or if you have a family. Honestly, I couldn’t believe how moderately priced my stay was.

Our stay at Timberlake Lodge hotel was Fabulous! Set in a quiet little town, this hotel was perfect for unwinding and relaxing. The decor of the hotel was beautiful and the rooms were fully furnished with everything we needed. The staff was very accomidating and friendly. The hotel had a nice size pool, with a giant slide for the kids. For breakfast, there was a delicious buffet of waffles, eggs, bacon, saudage etc.. It was the perfect hotel for a wonderful vacation!! I would definately return!

The TimberLake is a brand new upscale hotel in the heart of Grand Rapids MN and Itasca County owned and managed by the Ives Family. The lobby is spacious with a wonderful stone fireplace, surrounded by cozy sofas and chairs. It has the feeling of hominess. The front desk staff is the most friendly and helpful I have ever encountered. They take a personal interest in your comfort at the hotel.

The rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The bathrooms are large, with granite counter tops and shower. The shower is large with multiple shower heads for a delightful experience. We did not see all the styles of rooms, but did see the family adjoining suite. The children's room was furnished with bunk beds, futon sofa, television and lots of space for playing. The housekeeping staff were most pleasant and helpful.

Each morning we were treated to a free hot breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, waffles, fruit, juice, pastries, toast, and coffee or tea. This was served in a large semi-dining room.

The restaurtant/lounge is small and very good. The chef's walleye cakes appetizer was THE BEST and the house wine was excellent. The restaurant staff was very friendly and well trained.

The owner gave us a tour of the event center and it is very spacious with all the latest in audio visual technology. It would be a wonderful place for a convention, wedding or reunion.

The Grand Splash is a beautiful pool and waterpark area within the hotel. There is a large hot tub with a waterfall. A kiddie slide and pool and a large regular pool. There is also a 98' indoor/outdoor body slide which was enjoyed by adults and kids alike.

The exercise room has the newest equipment and overlooks the pool area. There is a laundry room near the exercise room. Also a video arcade near the pool area for those young at heart.

Our five days with the Ives family and their staff was wonderful. They know how to make a guest feel at home and are there to be of assistance in every way. We will certainly stay there on our next visit to Grand Rapids.
