I have stayed in hotels ranging from a hole-in-the-wall in a tiny town in North Dakota to Marriott Renaissance resorts that had recently "undergone a multi-million dollar renovation." My stay at the Timberlake Lodge surpassed them all.
Finding it was a breeze; it is located a block off of 169 south of town. There is a movie theater, Target and several fast food places within easy walking distance. The lobby area is very nicely decorated and comfortable. I loved the automatic doors from the outside (sure made getting in and out easy) and the covered entrance came in handy, since it was raining hard when we arrived.
We were quickly checked in and given wristbands for the pool/waterslide area. The room itself (double queen) was stunning. HUGE flat screen tv - I kept turning towards it, thinking it was a mirror. The bathroom is probably one of the nicest I have ever seen. The bathtub alone is reason enough to stay there. It is deep and wide and has great water pressure and fills fast. It was like a small swimming pool for my 8 year old. Complimentary toiletries were of high quality and even included conditioner and mouth wash. Having long hair, I really appreciate it when conditioner is supplied. The hair dryer was a full size dryer, not the miniture-attached-to-the-wall-with-a-6-inch-cord variety. Plenty of drawer and hanging space for longer stays. There was also a microwave and small cube-shaped refrigerator.
We enjoyed dinner in the on-site restaurant. If you stay here, be sure to eat here at least one evening. The atmosphere is casual, but the food is 5-star. The chef makes his own cheesecake, and you never know what flavors will be available on any given evening, but be sure to try one! The children's menu will be sure to please your kids - and is appropriately priced, too. I can't tell you how mad I get when a restaurant charges $6.00 for mac & cheese. We sat at the bar and chatted with the very friendly bartender while we ate.
We took the opportunity to take part in the free breakfast the next morning. This isn't the doughnuts and coffee you find at some hotels. In addition to pastries and coffee, there was juice, milk, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, make-your-own Belgian waffles, a selection of cereals, yogurts, toast, bagels, and a few other things I can't remember. You would be hard-pressed to not find something to eat - and it is all FREE! A big money saver for families with small kids who only want a bowl of Frosted Flakes for breakfast.
The pool area is large and airy, without the oppressive chlorine-infused humidity you sometimes find in indoor pools. Plenty of fresh, clean (and WARM!) towels were available poolside. My 8 and 11 year olds loved the large waterslide. The second of the waterslides advertised is a small one for the toddler set. It is a large resin frog and the kids slide down the tongue into a wading pool. The hot tub was very nice and large with easy to work jets. There was a pool attendant in the evening to keep watch over general activity in the pool area, but there are no life guards. Personally, I think that is a good thing, because it forces parents to monitor their children themselves.
I don't think I have ever been as impressed with a hotel as I am with this one. I simply cannot name one thing or event that detracted from our stay - except that we eventually had to leave.
