Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Someone stated the pub is dog friendly it is. They allow dogs to sit and lay all over the furniture. Not great when you take a little pride in cleanliness.

I would just like to start by saying the review left by an apparently Kevin, is so false and is slander on a lovely mum and daughter who have given blood, sweat and tears into getting the premises bk up and running!! Never heard such...disgusting accusations! This pub is a lovely family and dog friendly placeMore

Went tonight with my husband, daughter and granddaughter. Very disappointed with the food, two of us had curry and it looked disgusting, not enjoyable at all , my husband had a chicken dinner and the Yorkshire pudding would have made a better frisbee, you needed...a hacksaw to cut it. The only decent meal was the scampi and chips. Will definitely not be going again.More

Great ales, good company, we were made welcome by the locals and not stared at like you get in some village pubs. We've now got many more people we can talk to since retiring here. Entertainment most weekends with bingo, quizzes, karaoke, and live singers....Nice garden away from the road, and very dog-friendly.More

Stumbled upon this pub whilst looking somewhere to park overnight. The excellent camping space at the back of the pub (with good clean wash facilities) were great. The owner and the locals were very freindly and gave us lots of advice on camping spots nearby....The friendly atmosphere really makes this pub one to visit. Also dog friendly so for us this one ticked all the boxes.More

New to Chapel St Leonards on a dark Friday night. Missed turning & saw The Ship. Thought we would try (rude not too) seeing as we are seasonal goers next year at Goodwins and were on our way there. What a FANTASTIC landlord & landlady...and the locals made us feel so welcome although didn't know how far it was to Goodwins but that's another story. That said, made us feel so welcome. The Real Ale was excellent and as the wife said, real fruit with her Gin plus a Great selection of Gins made the whole experience BRILLIANT. 100% will visit next season and can't wait to taste the food and play bingo on a Friday. Another bonus is that we can bring pops our beagle because dogs were as welcome as their owners. So glad we missed turning. See you soon. Andy & Jo, and pops🐕A REAL pub.More

We went to the ship Inn to watch the football and were made very welcome by everyone. Really lovely pub, great staff and excellent prices. If you are looking for a great, traditional pub which is also dog friendly then this place is perfect.

Not a bad thing to say. Lovely staff. Good selection of ales(Batemans brewery, nothing more needed to say), made to feel totally welcome, unlike certain bars. Look forward to my next visit. Want to try the grub, heard it is very good.

Dogs are allowed in the ship in the bar area but not the restaurant. If you are going for a meal you can still eat in the bar area.
