No wonder there was no wait for a table at this Lanesboro eatery while nearby cafes had lines out the door on Labor Day. While we thought we hit the jackpot finding an open table at Gil B's, turns out the joke was on us.
Our experience started off rough with a young lady working the cash register who clearly had issues listening to us, and just stared at us when we asked a question regarding the menu. I couldn't sub one bag of chips for another, the menu was confusing - what's a sub vs a sandwich, I asked three times for a cup for water, etc.
The gal running the register would have been better off in the kitchen - not friendly, attentive or smart. (She gave us $1.30 for change when the register (and our total vs amount paid) clearly indicated we should receive $1.76.)
Two of us ordered the reuben, which was tasty. Unfortunately, the "crispy" chicken sandwich ... not so much. Previously fried "chicken tenders" were nuked half-heartedly in the microwave and then slapped on a stale bun that was then "toasted." I use these terms lightly because what came out was a less-than-lukewarm crappy sandwich that had Subway foot-longs looking like gourmet subs.
We sat down after ordering and looked around at the dozen or so tables in the restaurant - every single one except ONE was waiting for food. EEK. We saw people walking in to eat and wanted to warn them to run when while they could! Our food, however, didn't take as long to arrive as the patrons' who ordered pizza- one of whom claimed he had been waiting "close to an hour" for his pizza.
The bathroom was out of order to boot, which is unacceptable in a small town known for hosting folks fresh off long bike rides. Not only were we planning on relieving ourselves after our ride, but would have appreciated a good hand washing after biking 20+ miles.
There's a reason there were open tables at Gil B's - because most everyone else knew the restaurant wasn't worth eating at. Or rather, the others were much more worth waiting for.
Don't go here. It's not worth it.
