We loved this place! Beautify taken care of, the owners, Jim and Pam went over and above what would have been expected. The rooms were exceptionally clean and well maintained, they had coffee and bagels every morning that we could enjoy on the decks while we relaxed and planned our day. Every thing we needed we found at The Red Hotel; ice, indoor bike parking, BBQ grill, they had it all covered. The hotel is right across the street from the bike trail and within walking distance to several places to dine as well as shopping. We will be returning next year to celebrate our anniversaries again! It was fabulous! We have decided to make The Red Hotel an annual adventure.

Room Tip: We can't wait until next year!

If you are alone you may like the place except for the rates (150 a night) but in our case my family rented 4 of the 9 rooms they have to offer and have for the last eight years, we were not able to get a room there so we found one that was close by. When we went to vist with my family we relaxed and started to play a bean bag tournie. The new owners abruptly confronted us and told us we were not allowed on the premises because we were not registered guests. They told us that it would be like going to Vegas and staying at one hotel and using another hotels pool! We never used their facilities, we were outside playing yard games.

We were not aware of their $4/day fee, all they had to do was ask for some money! We would have gladly paid that. Instead they made a scene in front of the entire family and we were unable to spend the night with my family, one Aunt being from L.A. whom we hardly ever see, parents and brother from Mpls, and sister from Decorah and all the inlaws and kids.

After meeting the new owners I would never recommend this place as a destination for anyone who has family or friends who you want to have over as the new owners have no better thing to do than patrol the premises for anyone that has not paid for a room and have no people skills in conveying their policies in a civilized manner, they would rather make a scene or call the cops!

I am reluctant to review Pam and Jim's "Brewster's Red Hotel." Only because it will make it harder for my wife and I to get reservations. Pam and Jim made our stay absolutely wonderful. From telling us about fireflies and restaurants, to having a beanbag toss game available for good old self-entertainment.

Our room was neat as a pin. Handmade quilt and subdued decor - can you say relaxing???

Lily was a great watchdog, "Woof."

After the first night, we felt that we were coming home when we got back to the hotel.

Close to everything in town, they even offered us their own bikes.

Ice and cold drinks were available for a nominal fee.

Will definitely be back, save me a room.

Room Tip: Any room is a great room.

The owners Jim and Pam are very dedicated to ensuring their guests have a great stay weather for just one night or a week. My girlfriends and I stayed several nights and enjoyed the local scenery, trails, river, and shops. Each time we came out of our rooms in the morning we had fresh coffee and a nice and quick bagel breakfast. The rooms are kept very clean and if you need anything the owners make every attempt to accommodate you. One of the most enjoyable things about our stay was sitting outside by a campfire that was close-by and there were not any mosquitos. Apparently since there are no lakes in the county, there aren't mosquitos!!! If you go to Lanesboro stay at Brewster's, it's close to everything you'll want to enjoy, and tell Jim and Pam Hi! ~Melissa, Duluth, MN

We have stayed here for years. We book the same place when we leave until the new owners. When I called to confirm our reservations for this year which for our two rooms they gave them to someone else stating that they called to confirm several times and could not reach us. They had the wrong phone number written done for us, not even same area code and argued with us saying we gave them that number . They flat out said you will not be getting those rooms and were very rude even tho this was their mistake. We have been loyal for 15 years to this establishment and to be treated like this and ruin our family vacation we will never go back.

We stayed at Brewster's last year and were very pleased with the charm and cleanliness. The Inn Keepers were friendly and helpful but also gave you space. The muffins and coffee set out in the morning were very appreciated. We did a lot of fishing early and later and the day with long bike rides between. The beds were very comfortable and the room spotlessly clean.

We stayed for a last minute overnight getaway. The owners did an excellent job of renovating the building and adding modern convenience while maintaining the historic charm of the building. Well decorated and appointed room. My two complaints are that:
1) the bed was noisy--not squeaky springs, but an annoying rubbing sounds whenever we'd turn over
2) the window air conditioner was placed next to the bed which left my husband cold all night but me on the other side hot all night long--would have been much better if they installed the A/C on one of the other windows.
