After our overnight stay at the superb Sofitel Athens Airport - see our Tripadvisor Profile for our review and photos - we have flown the following day with Aegean Airlines to the Island of Mykonos, which lies 35 min. flying time from the greek capital. After arriving at the compact Mykonos Airport and fetching our luggage refreshingly fast, we had been welcomed to the island by an Royal Myconian Hotel ( One of the Leading Hotels of the World ) representant who has taken our luggage to the waiting complimentary Range Rover ( model Vogue ) transfer to this stunning hotel by the sea located in Elia direct on the beach. The transfer was a scenic 25 minutes of driving pleasure. We were more than ready for our 8 day / 7 night stay here. The check-in was fast, friendly and efficient in the vast fully marbled lobby plus we had the choice of three different rooms to choose from. We decided us for room no. 208, ( After we had seen all three choices on offer ). We had been given on the first evening a bottle of free greek red wine and fruits. Our luggage arrived promptly, Folks and we were on holiday in no time. Our views had been awesome to say the least incl. sea view, pool view and mountain views at the same time from two different balconies, which came all fully furnished plus our own Jacuzzi and Parasols. Our room had the following beautiful details incl. large king-size bed, white linen, pillows, thrower, resort-style furnishing in light brown wood plus mirrors and light fabrics upholsteries. We also had air-conditioning, fully tiled floors, two upholstered chairs, coffee table, CD player by Philips, TV came also from Philips with CNN, Bloomberg TV, BBC World, greek channels incl. Alpha, ANT 1, Star and many others on offer. The Mini-Bar was semi-stocked, but can be fully stocked with extra items upon request. ( So there is much space for your own drinks ). There was also art on the wall, payable WI-FI Internet ( best reception was in the lobby area ) access was on offer for 6 Euros - 5 UK£ - 9 US$ - for 120 minutes and we had daily turn-down service in the evenings - this was only to refresh or fill up on bath amenities however / no free water was provided at turndown. The wardrobe space was large and offered several compartments, a safe, laundry service sheets, 24 hangers and lots of space for clothing and things you and we might need. The Wake-up call can be ordered via automatic timer or personalized calling from the reception. This service was interesting and different! Our bathroom was medium in size and had a combined shower/bathtub combination on offer plus the toilet with bidet function, many towels, massive choice of beauty amenity products incl. Olivia of Greece, Korres Athens, Molton Brown from England and The Myconian Collection own-branded products all came with shampoos, bath gel, bath salt, body lotions, perfume wipes, anti midges wipes and on and on was the choice on offer! The bathroom had the same tiling as the bedroom floor by the way - so it was perfectly matched as well. Daily breakfast is served at the Main Restaurant between 7.30 am until 10.30 am ( one floor below the lobby with sea views ) and was very large and included many greek items, international specialities plus all the usual favourites on offer! One of us ( she ) enjoyed especially the greek village sausage and feta cheese for example! While the other one ( he ) enjoyed the freshly made waffles with greek cherry compote in heavy syrup served with the big spoon. Naturally the coffee was strong and never ending literally - the same with the freshly squeezed orange juice which would always be topped up by the rather very friendly waiter or waitress incl. Giorgios! We also enjoyed during lunch time the Pool Terrace and Restaurant which was always quite busy during day time hours incl. omlette with feta cheese and tomatoes, pita with chicken, Haloumi cheese and onions, banana split plus ice tea and much more. Also one of our sweet favourites were the greek dumplings served with thyme honey and sesame. In the Evenings we enjoyed the choices incl. room service - which delivers Dinner from 20.00 pm until 23.30 pm - incl, Souvlaki Botsaris style plus Seafood Souvlaki and Meltemi greek red wine plus Milkshakes. Sometimes we also had cocktails at the Lobby Bar Terrace incl. Pina Colada and Hawaiian Tropical with Champagne and a strawberry accompanied by a load of peanuts. The catering can be described as very very good from casual to upper upscale incl. lobster by the kilo was on offer and how about a glass of JW blue label? For our Dinners we paid always incl. wine, water, main meal, dessert and orange juice for two around 90 Euros / 83 UK£ / 125 US$ incl. service, VAT and tip. This represented good value because of the very good a la carte quality of the meals in all outlets enjoyed by us during our stay. The Service was also always professional and eager to please even. The Royal Myconian Hotel was during our stay nearly fully booked and very well visited from guests throughout the world incl. english, german, american, french and spanish guests plus some russians thrown into the mix as well. The location is spectacular and stunning at the same time which is shared between the Royal Myconian Hotel and it’s sister hotel, the Myconian Imperial Hotel, ( we had a good look upon it incl. the lobby and pool ) all both are members of the Leading Hotels of the World and family owned at the same time. All rooms incl. ours no. 208 are bungalow style and have mostly sea view on offer plus pool view or mixed views incl. mountain views. However the way via steps to the beach can be judged steep by many incl. us - having said this the superb pools made all the way up for this. The views from the pools are stunning incl. a complete Elia Bay Panorama of the Mediterranean Sea.
Nearly each guest we have encountered made many photos from the views alone here! We also loved the many amenities on offer at the Royal Myconian incl. free bus transfers to Mykonos Town, harbour ( which we enjoyed tremendously incl. the Mykonos port with cruise ships and ferries, the iconic Mykonos wind mills, shopping at the highest order think incl. Nautica, La Martina, Franck Muller, D&G plus more was on offer plus many little lanes to explore with white washed picture postcard architecture and churches as the superb restaurants and cafes on the waterfront ) and the airport, the spa which offers St. Barth’s products and services, indoor swimming pool area plus steam rooms, saunas and quiet rooms are on offer - this was on offer against an extra charge of 15 Euros per person, which covers however the whole stay. The hotel has also a chapel and offers wedding or re-wowing packages as well, plus a 2000 person meeting and convention centre was on offer. In the lobby there are a couple of shops selling souvenirs, jewellery and essentials. The atmosphere of the whole property was upscale, smart casual and full of pride for the hotel and the fine surroundings, as well the kids are catered too incl. kids pool, playground, highchairs and cots. Not that we had seen many young kids here. Most guests in early October 2009 were in there middle or matured years and couples or larger Tour groups notably from the USA. We had always sunshine and best of luck with the bathing weather as well for the Jacuzzi. In the evening there was always a nice breeze which was well compacted with the day temperatures. So there was no reason to be worried about being too cold or being too hot either! In the lobby there is also a small library with books and even a chess board was on offer. All in all the Royal Myconian Hotel which is part of the Myconian Collection encompassing four properties of the highest caliber in Mykonos comes highly recommended from us and should be on the travel list of many years to come as a resort hotel which brings a smile on every face we saw here incl. ours! Mykonos has 6000 inhabitants and at any point of the island the airport is never longer than 25 min. away! Also highly recommended comes a scenic ferry transfer to the Island of Delos - which is an archaeological masterpiece - the ferry service leaves on most days excl. Monday from the Delos ferry pier on the waterfront in Mykonos town. The cost per person return was 15 Euros. So Folks, we sincerely hope we could help to make up your mind about the beautiful island of Mykonos and the superb Royal Myconian Hotel in Elia, Mykonos, Greece. So do not forget to FLY!STAY!EXPLORE!MORE! and see some islands which offer sunshine in incomparable beauty! ( This was our third time in Greece, but our first time in Athens and Mykonos - before we had two times stayed at the Elounda Bay Palace - also a member of the Leading Hotels of the World - in Elounda, Crete, Greece way back in 2004 and 2005! ) We look for more Greece in the future! Thanks again and happy travels! By the way you might want to have also a lunch or a dinning experience at the sister hotel Myconian Ambassador which is 30 minutes away from the Royal Myconian and is a member of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux.
