Excellent collection of art, crafts and furniture. Free access allows locals and visitors to enjoy the collections as often as they are able. There is free parking in the neighborhood but the parking lot has a low fee and is quite convenient. Probably a 10 minute drive from downtown Minneapolis.

We were very pleased with the Art Institute. The collection was very good and there's no entrance fee, only a suggested donation. It was also easy to get to from downtown. we took the 11 bus from Nicollet Mall and it only took about 15 minutes and cost $1.75 per person. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed, so we grabbed sandwiches at the counter near the kids area in the basement. We were disappointed in the sandwiches and they were somewhat over-priced. It's worth a visit, but make other lunch plans!

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is always interesting, but I had the opportunity to go there when they had the Bodies Exhibit, and that was so cool, I went back for another go a few years back. They've always got something interesting every time I drop by Minneapolis.

This really is a first-rate collection in a magnificent home in Minneapolis. The broad expanse of the facade unfolds to reveal a series of galleries that contain some extremely fine examples of world art. The not to be missed works include an extremely rare Greek sculpture in the lobby: the Doryphoros; Goya's Self Portrait with His Doctor, Rembrandt's Lucretia, and Copley's extremely strange portrait of Sarah Allen. There is a wonderful gallery of the Prairie School architects, and a terrific set of modern galleries, including masterpieces by Dali, Magritte, Beckmann and Derain. I wish the ancient and medieval collections were stronger, but that is off-set by the first-rate Asian and African works. There is something for everyone here, and it is all free. I found parking directly across the street from the museum, also free.

Make sure you take plenty of time because you cannot see it all in one day. As the displays change check and see which is the most interesting for you. They will have different time periods, different countries, and different artists. Check it out. I can't say too much about it.
