“Unique Mpls Experience”

We've lived in Minneapolis area for more than 30 years and didn't realize what a gem this is. We went for the food at Fika, which is excellent and well worth the visit, and decided to tour the mansion while there. The mansion is a late Victorian era Swedish-American mansion with exquisite woodwork carvings and Swedish porcelain stoves. Also houses a variety of art exhibitions. Very much worth a visit.

“Go for the food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Really enjoyed my afternoon at the Institute. Had an authentic lunch of gravlax and bread with a glass of wine. Enjoyed the current exhibit "Paper Cut" which I had seen while in Sweden a couple of years ago at Kalmar castle. The mansion is so beautiful but the new addition is beautiful in a modern way as well. I love the play on old and new.

Go and see, even if just once. Go and learn, history is fun. Go and experience the feel of the old life! Christmas is especially terrific but all year round is great.

“Take your time but see it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

This is a wonderful campus that includes a modern building with exhibits, classroom areas where students learn traditional crafts and artwork, a very nice cafe (highly rated) and adjacant to a stunning historic home built by one of the city's successful early Swedish immigrants. The historic home is worth the trip.
